My new Canon 50 mm 1.8 STM lens makes a slight whirring sound when it focuses. Is that normal? The 24-105 mm lens does not make that sound.
I bought the 50 mm lens to shoot in lower light conditions. Did a test shot with it at 2.2 mm. I shot the same picture with the 24-105 mm lens at 4 mm. The iso on the 50 mm lens 2.2 mm shot is lower but the pictures look comparable. It was a bit disappointing. Is this what you would expect?
Nothing like seeing it in person. Very inspiring, perfect setting.
What if there is nothing to focus on between the foreground and more distant subject?

When does hyperfocal distance work? Have not had much success with it.
Here’s another example of the problem! Don’t know if you can see, but the actual Crazy horse sculpture is out of focus. The white model is close, while the sculpture is far away.
