These images were taken at some distance away. While the viewing quality of the image is not the best, the fact that I sat in one spot for an hour or two watching this GBH catch his breakfast and then getting a shot of his trophy catch of the day was well worth the wait and sharing. After catching the fish he flew it to land where he could tear it apart and eat it. I just wish I he could have been a little closer to the action.
Wittinessed this Great Blue Heron Spear fishing today.
Living in Florida all my life I have seen some large Gators but this one stands out among all the rest with its dark color and size. I estimated about 12 ft or more from afar distance. You can zoom in on back foot for a feel for his size. Sixty degree weather brought this giant out for a little sun bathing.
Thanks, just getting started taking photos as a hobby after retiring and I am seeing things i never took the time to look for. This guy was lounging in the sun right under my feet as I took a break and sat down after a long walk in the woods.
Found this guy while walking in the Florida woodlands. Robber Fly makes a complete metamorphosis from egg, larval, pupal, and then a winged adult. This insect predator catches its prey in midair. A very interesting insect taking up to a year for full metamorphosis to occur.
Birds are getting soaked this week. Short periods of sunshine means dry food and a little feather maintenance before the next round of showers.
Thanks for your comments. I am about 2 months into trying to shoot in manual mode with my Pentax K50, its very challenging but rewarding when a nice picture appears in a round of throw aways. Retirement has given me time to peruse this hobby daily and just have some fun with it.
Found this Bluejay in a light down pour looking for food. The next day he was back again looking good and having a dry meal.
