These images were taken at some distance away. While the viewing quality of the image is not the best, the fact that I sat in one spot for an hour or two watching this GBH catch his breakfast and then getting a shot of his trophy catch of the day was well worth the wait and sharing. After catching the fish he flew it to land where he could tear it apart and eat it. I just wish I he could have been a little closer to the action.

Given the circumstances you produced some excellent shots.

Great capture!!
The great blue heron does not eat fish in small bits, they swallow them whole.

Guess they don't listen to their dentist and chew each bite 32 times.
Nice pose on the last one.
You could do some selective color enhancement to give it a little more color.
Pictures are never sharp enough no matter what. Especially if your a pixel peeper like
Although with a nice composition like the last picture you dont need it to be super sharp to have a great final product.
If you can tweet the exposure separately for the subject and backround and make the image a little softer.
Your time was well spent with that capture.
Quite fantastic images! I need to take the fellow fishing with me for I seem to always come back without even a bite.
Nice set. Your patience really paid off.

I don't think he uses simple fishing techniques, but is a very sophisticated hunter! Good catch on the images too!
From a distance I could not tell what he was doing with the fish but looked like he was tearing at it ,but your right they do swallow the whole fish at one time. I have not seen one catch such a large fish before, wasn’t sure if it would go down the throat easily and my view became blocked as it flopped around on the ground. I guess he was grabbing at it for proper insertion.
Thanks for your advice on the photos. I am all ears when it comes to improvements or tips on improving my picture quality. Love a nice sharp picture. I knew these were to far out but tried to crop and save them.

Nice set Jerry, but did he get it down?
Absolutely wonderful images.
