Does Lightroom have the ability to move files and folders? I have not been able to do so, and have modified my folder structure outside of Lightroom and have had to delete and recreate the catalog. Am I missing something here?

As you have discovered, LR is not intuitive. It requires a minimum of a few hours training before using. Poking around in it can result in significant grief. Adobe provide all the free video training you will need to get started. After that I recommend Lynda.com and CreativeLive.

I’m looking for a case for “just” the camera with lens. Many times I’m just doing a walk around with a single lens and want some protection stopping for coffee or lunch. Using D7100, either 18-55, 35mm, 11-18 or if possible 55-300. I have more cases than lens. On vacation walking around trying to be inconspicuous, thinking maybe I need a smaller camera, I think, maybe not the camera but the total package. Thoughts??
Thanks

Recommend a name brand top loader.

Thats a DVD not a CD, it maybe the format of the DVD which is an issue. The disk may need finalising although thats a crazy size for 30 jpegs even at a massive 50MB per image that would be about 1.5 GB most likely at 10MB per image it would half fill a CD (about 300MB)

I would like to start working with raw files...can anyone recommend freeware that i can use to get the feel of this before investing in a better program?

I agree w you starting w LR and Ps. All processing sw requires learning. I see no reason to spend time and effort learning something you are not going to use. That coupled with Adobe’s tight integration w its mobile apps, makes CC the best place to start.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

I use the Canoscan 9000f for prints, slides and negatives.

Batteries from the Mk II will most definitely work in the newer Mk IV, but they will not like doing so. They might send you error messages or run out of power sooner than expected, but they do work. If you stop to think about this you will realize the Mk IV is a power hog compared to the Mk II. The AF system utilizes it's own computer which uses power. The touch screen on the Mk IV uses lots of power. The Mk II is a power miser by comparisons. Most of the adjustments made on the rear LCD of the Mk IV are done on the top LCD of the Mk II, a feature that uses far less power. Try this, open the manual for the Mk IV and start reading the nomenclature section. Look at every button and ask yourself if the system using that button is using power and how much. You will quickly realize how efficient the Mk II is. I carry a Mk II in my car. I looked at the battery charge this morning and found it to be full, and it's been that way since Thanksgiving. My Mk IV goes through 2 batteries a day just shooting birds out the window. That body with large lens eats batteries whole. I am just greatful that I am able to use the Mk II batteries at all in the Mk IV. They can still be used for back up. The card situation in the Mk IV is sort of funky, to me. I dislike SD cards and got one 64gb card for it. I use this card solely for backing up the RAW files on the CF card. It never comes out of it's slot. Best of luck to you and the new Mk IV, it is one great experience. Wait until you see it work at ISO 12,8000!

Do you leave your Mk IV GPS on all the time?

For wildlife and landscapes your money would be better spent on one of the several versions of a EF 70-300 lens. Look for used copies of the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens, such as at KEH or ebay or similar used resellers have them listed around $250. There's a v II copy of this lens that was $499 new yesterday at B&H (after rebate). Another used lens to consider is the EF 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM, used around $360.

I messed up. Only downloaded the sd card with jpeg images then reformatted both cards. Can you stack star images if you only have the jpegs? thanks

I’m assuming you had only jpeg on one card and only RAW on the other?

I am interested to know how do people travel with their cameras. I trave quite a bit and try to put everything in our hand carry, but just in case I always maintain some form of insurance for all my gear. I usually bring pacsafe v25 backpack with a small hand carry luggage (fits the overhead bib) to carry other camera gear, cleaning supplies, flash and other miscellaneous items. I also keep some extra clothes in the same luggage.

I recommend a carry-on sized roller that also has backpack straps.

From what I can tell, lightroom's catalog has a copy of every image that adds to the images on my hard drive.

I backed up the images on my hard drive to an external and to the cloud and deleted them, then emptied the recycle bin, but my hard drive is still half full.

Are the images in the catalog taking up all that space? How do I create more room on my hard drive?

I have a wedding with two other shooters tomorrow and I have a feeling the RAW images will take up more space that I have. I have 221 GB free. The hard drive is only half a TB.

How to clear the catalog if this is the problem? Is this advisable? Should I get a 256gb flash drive to store the images for the wedding tomorrow?

Yes, the RAW images from 3 photographers shooting from 8:30 to 7pm may be upwards of 256gb.

It’s really important that you make sure you understand LR’s systems for cataloging, creating smart previews and other previews; and where they are stored. I highly recommend a current book or video course on the version you are using. For most of us, these thing are not very intuitive.

I continue to plan my long awaited River Cruise on the Danube - Prague to Budapest next August. Ideally, I'd like to bring my desktop and all my photography equipment!
However, Lufthansa and TSA have suggested I pair down. Most UHHer's have suggested I travel with lighter equipment than my Canon 5D MIII and three lenses. My concern, in addition to making the trip enjoyable, is image quality. I'm leaning towards the Sony RX10 IV, either renting or purchasing.

Here's my concern: Will the 24 mm be sufficiently wide to capture the grandeur of the castles and scenes?
Thanks,
Mark

I have been using Canon printers for many years and should never have used non OEM ink. This is the second printer I've had to replace because non OEM ink ruined the print head (I'm a slow learner). I researched how to clean the print head and followed all the instructions and now a printed page comes out in PINK type! The black ink tanks are full, although the colors are low, so that doesn't explain why it doesn't print text in black. I ordered one set of Canon ink for a last ditch effort to resurrect this $60 printer.

I already have a Canon Pro 10 dedicated to picture printing, although I may occasionally print a picture on the all in one.

That being said, I could be swayed to switch brands for my office work printer. It needs to scan, copy, & print and not put me in the poor house buying ink!! I've even considered a color laser printer. Replacement toner cartridges cost more than the printer, but that is true for ink jet printers too. The difference is the number of times they need to be changed for best results.

I've looked at so many options that my head is spinning and would really like to hear what you all like.

I would still recommend Canon. In my case, Apple AirPrint is a requirement. I used to recommend HP but had a terrible time with several and gave up on them. Epson makes good inkjets also, but make sure your choice meets your wireless needs.
