Upon my return from a trip to China, I found the same kind of spots all over photos that showed a lot of sky. I contacted Nikon, sent them some examples, and was instructed to send the camera back to them. It's now with their service dept. if yours is still under warranty I would suggest you do the same. If the problem returns after the warranty runs out you'll still have a leg to stand on. Good luck!
I am now having the same problem with my 7100. I just sent Nikon some F22 blue sky photos to have the spots evaluated. My camera is 9 months old and had only been heavily used during a 3week trip to China this month. I hope this will not be a chronic problem. I never had it with my 5100.
I am replying to your question while sitting in the Hong Kong airport on my way home from China. I decided to purchase a monopod to take on this trip and researched the hell out of it. After looking at all the brands and all the materials I decided on a Siuri aluminum 5 section. It collapses down to 15 inches and weighs in at just over a pound. The advantages of carbon fiber over aluminum did not justify the price to me. I think I payed around $50 for it and it served me very well. Kept my camera steady and when collapsed was a great deterant to shills trying to sell you stuff. I put a Manfrotto quick release head on it which made it perfect.
I hope you find what you want. By the way, it comes with a belt holder that makes it very easy to carry.

These are not dust spots but what look like round translucent sizable dots. The almost look like oil on water
While reviewing some photos I took today of tall buildings here in Shanghai, I noticed some round pale spots on the gray sky. They do not seem to be on photos with less sky and more color that I can see. I am using a Nikon D7100. Is this a problem with the camera and can they be removed from the photos? If it's a problem with the camera does it have to go back to Nikon. It's less than one year old.
Both batteries are Nikon oem. I do rotate their use. Perhaps I'll contact Nikon when I get back from my trip
Thanks for all your answers
I purchased my D7100 last September and have used it very little until a couple of weeks ago when I left for China where I still am. I purchased a second battery at the same time as the camera and they have both been recharged no more than 15-20 times each. Now one of them reads 1 year of life while the other is still at 0. Is this normal? Is one faulty? Please explain

Love your reply. Who need just 3 dimensions!
I notice that when I autofocus my Nikon 18-200 lens on a very distant object, I can still turn the manual focus ring a bit further which then places the distant object out of focus. A touch on the sputter release brings it back into focus.
I must confess, I'm confused. How can it go beyond infinity? Please explain.
I was shooting at the Forbidden City in Beijing yesterday and most of my photos look washed out and hazy. The day was overcast and there was a good deal of haze in the air. I am using a UV filter. Should I be using a polarizer as we'll or can so e of this be pumped up in post?
Help!
Thanks to all of you for your answers
While I know to shut off VR when using a tripod, should it also be off with a monopod, which is less stable?
This is all about weight and length. A pivot head makes the unit too long
I want to get a quick release for my monopod and see that they are all over the place price wise. Amazon has one from Neewer that is $15 and has good reviews. Am I better off with a Gittos or other name brand or are they all basically the same. I don't care about brand names but want decent quality. It will be attached to a 7100 with an 18-200. I am not interested is a ball head because of weight and length. This is for a trip to China
