All very nice but especially like #4, has a 3D feel to it. And the spider is a super cool looking shot with those water droplets. Very well done!

Absolutely beautiful. It must have been difficult to leave this place.

Beautiful image. I much prefer the original shot. The golden tone on the water and mountainside adds a wonderfully warm, relaxed mood to the scene. Very tranquil.

Hand held using manual focus with 2 flashes.
I have 1 flash with a 12 inch soft box on one side then on the other side I have a flash shooting through a white umbrella it is sorta up high aiming down.

Thanks so much for the set up, I knew a flash was needed for these types of shots, didn't realize 2 were actually used, guess the more light the better. Manual focus surprised me, I would have thought that with this birds quickness, auto focus would be the way to go. Perhaps if they hover in the same spot long enough, this may allow enough time to manual focus. But still, you must be fairly adept using manual focus to quickly be able to get such sharp images.

wow! Those are some fantastic shots you've taken. A few questions if you don't mind. Hand held or was camera on tripod, pre-focused on a particular spot and remotely triggered? Single flash?

These shots look even better when downloaded!

I prefer the sky in #1(more natural) but the rocks in #2

Thanks for that. The distortion that one can detect round the hairlinen is one reason I made no attempt to do it quite apart from the fact that I don't have the technical skill. One of the charms of the shot is what I remember of the excursion in a particularly beautiful place by a river.

I like Wahawk's edit but understand you wanting to remember the location and your time spent there. If you had an unobstructed landscape shot of the area, you could blend the two photos together, creating a better image and still keep the memory of the excursion.

Below is my attempt by using cloning & cropping to keep background intact while removing distractions.

Fawlty128, Rpavich and Wahawk. Thanks for the criticisms. I would love to do black and white but my efforts so far to convert from colour to black and white haven't been very satisfactory. You're welcome to try if you wish.

Oh, by the way, it was midday sun.

I don't have the software or skills to correct for the blown highlights but here's a quick crop and conversion to a slight sepia finish.

The big benefit in posed portrait shots is that you have complete control over focus and lighting. With candid shots, you usually do not have that option. Looks like you had to deal with some very harsh sunlight, a moving target and a bit of distance between you and the subject. I think a little cropping and B&W or Sepia conversion may work well here.

Very nice photos but surprised they didn't use software to rotate the globe. I played with one of the shots using some old software (from 2000) just to get an idea as to how it would look. Original shot is here: www.flickr.com/photos/29847057@N03/6597102457/in/set-72157628627428833/

Definitely like the effect of the globe. Might to go out and get myself one, think it might help get those creative juices flowing.

I could do that for about 1 beer, after that I would drop the camera.

Now that would make for a great photo, you asleep in the chair, your camera on the ground, and a hummer sipping from your beer.

Sad about the wildfires but what a great effect the smoke produces on this Sun shot. Fantastic image.
