wow! Those are some fantastic shots you've taken. A few questions if you don't mind. Hand held or was camera on tripod, pre-focused on a particular spot and remotely triggered? Single flash?
These shots look even better when downloaded!

Hand held using manual focus with 2 flashes.
I have 1 flash with a 12 inch soft box on one side then on the other side I have a flash shooting through a white umbrella it is sorta up high aiming down.

Thanks so much for the set up, I knew a flash was needed for these types of shots, didn't realize 2 were actually used, guess the more light the better. Manual focus surprised me, I would have thought that with this birds quickness, auto focus would be the way to go. Perhaps if they hover in the same spot long enough, this may allow enough time to manual focus. But still, you must be fairly adept using manual focus to quickly be able to get such sharp images.
Excellent capture. I know how hard it is to capture these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
