An important point on iCloud is that it transparently allows access to all your photos on an iPhone via the photo app, but does not use local storage space. You can of course access your stored images on other cloud apps like Dropbox, but you must do so via the dedicated app. iCloud is the only one that works transparently with photos, and automatically manages phone storage space.

That said, if you don't care about the iPhone specific features, I'd go with Dropbox.

Filing by dates may work for some people, but,
when was I in Albuquerque???
1980 something? Or was it the early '90s...
Nope, isn't going to work for me.

That's why I add at least one descriptive word after the serial date. You can then just do a search.

I use the euro/military date as a serial method plus a descriptive word for folder naming. Such as 20180405 for today's date for example. It orders correctly, as opposed to the method we are used to.

It would help if you let us know what camera you are using.

Go with DJI. Especially if you're just starting out. Short of high end octos, they are the best bet. Mavics are amazing.

Hi,

Anyone have experience of photographing from a drone?

Any advice on which drone/camera gives the best results.

Here in the Uk there are lots of restrictions as to where. one can fly a drone, hence my hesitation until now.

There should be zero degradation, unless there is a problem with your storage. If the file was changed for this reason, it probably would either not load, or something more dramatic.

I owned a Panasonic G7, and then upgraded to the G85. I also ended up buying a GH5 for video production work. These are fantastic cameras, and have a wealth of great lenses available from Pana, Olympus, and Leica.

A G7 kit would be in budget. It doesn't have IBIS and isn't weather sealed like the G85, but performs just as well. Amazing little camera.

That is why I sell on Craigslist. I get all the money and don't have to pay any commission. I've never been screwed by selling locally on Craigslist because I don't buy into some of the scams that people play. Just tell the potential buyer that you only accept cash, will only meet in person at a public place. Simple as that .

Make no mistake, I'm a Craigslist user and a fan. It solves the sending money to someone with no other support problem. It's just local unfortunately, unless you go and post in multiple cities.

I'm aware the classifieds here on the UHH, and I do appreciate that it's free. It's not really quite the same as a dedicated resale site as the ones I've mentioned. I also don't care for the fact that others can post public comments to your classified ad, and you have no control over it. I believe this hampered the sale of a lens I had posted here in the past.

Fred Miranda himself is a great contributor to the art. I still use some of his Photoshop actions. Again, the resale section is really just another forum posting. And with a monthly fee at that. Forum postings are not likely to draw buyers who aren't already users of that forum. They also lack the oversight and other sales tools that Etsy, Audigon, and Reverb offer. Ebay too for that matter.

KEH is very much the other direction of what I am talking about. No doubt the easiest route, but you keep an even smaller fraction of the equipment value.

Hi folks,

I've sold gear on ebay numerous times, and it's ok, but you give up a pretty good chunk of value. I also have sold a lot of audio gear over the years, and have come to prefer a site focused on better stereo equipment called Audigon.com. There is just a small posting fee, plus 2.75% if you use their payment processing. Reverb.com is a similar site focused on band equipment, and Etsy.com specializes in vintage and handmade items. All of these sites let you keep more of the proceeds from the sale, and tend to attract more qualified buyers, and less bad actors.

As far as I know, there is no such site for camera equipment. At least not that I've yet found. I think this is a great opportunity for someone with the right skillset.

Storing on optical discs is a mistake, and a hassle to manage (IMHO). Hard drives are dirt cheap these days. I saw a 6TB on sale recently for $150.

All you have to do is copy to two drives, or even better, three and store the third off site. Just replace the drives over time, and copy to the new media. I use a RAID NAS from Netgear as well as an external backup drive.

Nope. Looks like guy is actually a pro sports photog. Plenty of signs his gear has seen a lot of use. He's setup with bodies and glass for just about any contingency.

BBF is my preference, also supported by manual focus override. I'm assuming your camera also uses the shutter button to stop and start video recording. I don't use continuous auto, but find the one shot auto to be a great asset when things happen fast. I definitely don't want a focus hunt to start as I begin recording.

DPI is specific to printing, where pixels is specific to screen display. Increasing DPI will also result in a larger pixel dimension.
