This is a great post and very interesting from some of our admired image makers. In process of
building a Fuji kit started with great deal B&H XT-3 lens with it 16-80 F4. And another F4 lens purchased.
The Fuji has 10 bit and is all around great specs. The built in film looks. For the last few years the Sony a7-a7s II these low light cameras great video. Sony in the beginning was making F4 lens then faster lens for pricing access. The Sony 55mm being a great lens very expensive. Now testing the reality of a Fuji with F4 with the camera at higher ISO's. Looking for a compromise. 1.4 lens tend to be very highly priced. Bought some 3rd party lens price busters from Meike, 7artisans. Viltrox 1.4,1.8 etc. Send back one. Liked 7artisans 23mm.
The natural look of the Fuji 16-80 F4 at higher ISO's looks very pleasing.
Stay well. Stay safe

Thank you everyone who supported my new topic about the state of camera's. What makes me sad is
the state of these wonderful camera's and lens by great companies. I like it here because most understand
the passion for imagery, creativity and the craft of photography and videography. I had the pleasure in my advertising work of spending time with icons like Pete Turner.
I am well aware of business economics of businessesI owned a number of creative businesses.
That is why I am here. When I ask a question many members try to help out with information.
The last thought is anger seems to be here in our society. And creative people have always helped
each other and supported the arts and advertising for the better.

I have been selling to MPB and KEH for many years. These prices don't seem that unusual. On average I got about 45% of the original sell price.

Considering the cost of mid and top end new cameras I would expect the used gear market to be booming.

Thanks Joer I was getting about 40% on good gear in great shape. I expected a hit but 30% or less no.
Thanks Tom

Tomcat5133 like so many other UHH's your focus is totally off the mark.
Photographic kit is merely a tool to assist the photographer to express (capture) their visual statement.
For commercial photographers this tool is a debit which must be balanced against income revenue.

Sadly Tomcat5133 you are more concerned about your kit's market liquidity than capturing breathtaking imagery which speaks of one's visual statement. However you are not alone here... The Main Forum is overrun with "investors" trying to justify their numerous questionable acquisitions...

Bottom Line: "Market liquidity is a market's feature whereby an individual can quickly purchase or sell an asset without causing a drastic change in the asset's price. Liquidity involves the trade-off between the price at which an asset can be sold, and how quickly it can be sold."

My significant other is an accountant with decades of experience in her profession and holds a Master's Degree from the U of MD. She has nerves of steel and a heart of ice in her financial dealings... Such is life in the world of business finance.

Tomcat5133 you are decidedly NOT a photographer in my humble estimation... you are merely a Troll offering nothing constructive on the craft... The number of topics you've created on UHH is 34... NONE are showcasing your artistry.... ALL have been to the Main Forum. As such you are at best a Troll.... I would suggest you find another site to spread your toxic venom of doom and gloom attitude that things are only getting worse. This attitude is a cancer which would benefit from being surgically removed from this site.

I challenge you to post joyful uplifting imagery which we all need and would cherish during the challenges of this pandemic... Below is an example I captured over a decade ago of the gift of HOPE which springs eternal...
.
Tomcat5133 like so many other UHH's your focus is ... (show quote)

I will be a gentlemen Thomas. We have the same names.
I honestly don't even know exactly what troll means. If you look carefully you will see the
contributions I have made to this forum. Many experienced here thanked me for my revealing
the creativity of micro contrasting. Which is the magic of some very famous camera
s and lens. I posted a shot I took when I had my first camera Pentax Spotmatic.
I buy good cameras and lens and have shot over 100 videos with just a doc Sony camcorder.
Look me up on vimeo. Look at my website neweyesproductions. I have 100's of awards for
graphics working in ad agencies and my own companies. I have produced many Corp. shows
for major companies with many celebrities and American hero's. Ronald Reagen being one.
I never looked back when buying cameras like maybe 20 Nikon's. I managed my companies
finances myself and sold my last 43 foot sailboat on the Chesy.
Accusing me of toxic venom? I have worked in charities for years. Disabled children, homeless
in Philadelphia. First responders. Battered woman etc. I have posted here and got good
responses. This kind of reminds me of what we are seeing in our country. Anger. Never
saw that in anyone of your posts. I am decidedly not a photographer?
Now to try and get you to understand. I moved to Fuji for the creative and technicals.
And I was sharing my thoughts about the marketplace for any of us which kind of
saddened me. And I said no problem I will just wanted to get new creative tools.
I taught as a celebrity guest seminar for years at the Art Institute. It was a
3 hour seminar on Visual communication once a week.
So I hope you will understand at 77 years old I was just bringing a realistic
update for folks thinking of buying or changing gear. Stay safe. Be well.

I saw the chart that new sales of the big guys Canon, Nikon, Sony etc. are now 10% of what they
were 10 years ago. I have resold my gear for years. Great ebay rating good resell pricing and responsive service.
I switched from Sony to Fuji and now have the XT3 and a few lens. Frankly loved my Nikon's and Sony's etc.
But the quality, specs, lens are really outstanding. And the strategy to keep the camera
with upgrades for years.
That said returning to the companies like MPB, KEH etc. are now
lowballing quotes for good camera's and lens. ebay is loaded with many of the same len's and camera's
and so many to choose from. Pricing way down. One group offered me a little over $500 bucks for Sony 70 200 F4 Zoom still sells new for $1400, not a G lens but a very good lens in perfect condition. My Sony a7s II not used for production and clean was quoted at about $1000. This is a home run camera. $800 Sony quality lens offered $250 $300.
I realized over time things changes and products change value. I am OK waiting it out on ebay my
good rating to find buyers. Hope everyone is well and safe and I hope this post doesn't bring a firestorm
I was a Nikon guy for years and years. Loved being a part of this evolution since I was in my 20's.

Really great shots. It is wonderful that their are places where people can
meet and enjoy each other. 20 years ago we took an extended trip and
in China at the Great wall lots of great kids on a trip posed for me with the
biggest smiles and they were so friendly. Great tour. Stay safe.

These shots are so beautiful. When I blew them up they looked like paintings.
The artistry in your composition and the ability to blow up a scene is just great.

In modern photography the emphasis on sharpness seems over done. I think without
expertise that folks like film because it has more of a painted look. All the makers make
camera's that are really good images. And then folks want bokeh to see the swash
of color that makes an emotional shot of a portrait.

Thanks for sharing these images. They are very special.

Watch out Jerry. Their are so many communications I get
now that are scams. I get Russian girls every week looking for a friend.
I get invoices that are not mine. For jet fuel etc etc
What seems benign and fun is something to always be careful about.
Anyway enjoy the view. Good luck.
PS I think the hackers are getting our age groups and
trying to get info they can use.

Good choice of a few lens. But I think they are all zooms.
Zooms are great I have some but some and I believe that most primes are better.
I just switched from Sony to Fuji mirrorless. It seems to me the Fuji lens and
a bunch of 3rd party lens have come from china are really good glass.
For specific uses, street, b&w, landscapes etc etc their primes are excellent.
I own a lot of gear but find these days do not use a lot of the gear.
You are in good shape. Maybe you want a portrait lens or prime that
has great bokeh that would be specific uses. Your choices were excellent.
PS-I own the Sony RX10 III bridge camera 24-600 zeiss lens. At times
I think get rid of all my stuff and just use this bridge camera. The lens is
amazing for a bridge camera. Good luck.

I think you are very smart with your lens. But just maybe primes
have some magic in making images. My Sony 55mm zeiss does things my
zooms can't. I own the Sony RX10 III their first Sony bridge camera with a 24mm
to 600mm lens. Great images and great video even 4k. Their is no reason to
want anything more. But......

Ok so there are so many times Im driving down the road and wish I had my camera. I have always heard its not good to leave it in the car due to weather changes and moisture. Does anyone have their camera in their car, and is it ok to do this?

Thanks
Julie

Julie hi hope things are well with you. My suggestion is if you can afford it get one of the great smaller cameras
that are now available. Sony's RX100's are amazing for thier size. They are up to like 5 or 6 version. I have the 4 and it terrific. Have used some video from these camera's. Canon, Panasonic, nikon all have great camera's
that fit in your bag, briefcase. or pocket. I have now changed to Fujifilm and they have wonderful camera's
that are smaller size that street shooters like. An older model of the a6000 series like the a6300 I havee or RX100would be great fun. I never left a camera in my car. Or in my room art a hotel. Check if your homeowners or rental insurance covers your camera. Good luck it is all good fun.

This is a bit complicated. I posted recently about my change in gear and work.
I acquired by first Fujifilm XT-3 camera and their 16 to 80 lens. The price was great on Black friday from B&H.
And I will sell or trade in most of my Sony cameras lens etc. I had some paying work and the Covid stopped
that. Mostly shooting sports running and triathlon work. And a couple of content marketing jobs. One was filming a famous Ballet School in FL for a year and it was a great experience. Only bad part was they neve paid my invoices. So I am reading (maybe inspired) shooters switching to Fujifilm. The acceptance of asp c cropped work and the excellence of their camera's end lens. I have full frame gear like the Sony a7s II a great camera. Pricing for others like me was an issue and accepting cropped sensor as very adequate for my work. I have been shooting shots or video for years. Want to sell my photo illustrations as consumer or gallery art. Or just enjoy imagery. Being a Art Director, Creative Director, Producer, videographer at this point is over. I am in my 70's and by luck very healthy
and still have a spring in my step. Unfortunately my wife had a stroke this year and is not well. So being home even with help need to help her.
The change was being creative and happy to use the tools. Fujifilm is a company that make many lens for movies high end cameras etc. They seem to improve the camera's constantly and don't have new products constantly.
This was the first time since my Pentax in my 20's that I picked up the camera and need a couple of weeks
to set it up. Did not buy the XT-4 to me it needs more time. Creating is a wonderful life. That is why I enjoy this forum even though the name is bazaar. Safe life and enjoy imagery everyone here.

You are so right. Their is no control of taste, fair timing and hyperactive nonsense that makes young
people think they are a circus. Some commercials are good but others like the insurance commercial think progress with a black gentlemen half man and half motorscyle.
The influence this has on our society is very bad in my mind. I worked in advertising had my
own businesses, last a production business doing National sales show and content marketing video.
And the cursing and jokes are over the top awful. The cursing in Washington is out of control.
We pay a little as possible to have netflix and PBS, Amazon Prime to gert away from ads.
My wife watches PBS and etc almost all the time because it is classy and the English
shows are very good and fun. And historic series.
I spent time in many stations some times editing their and they were great places with
people that a lot of talent and engineering skills. Stay safe. Happy New Year.
