Dumb question for all you experts out there.

Were you reluctant to post your first photo for fear that it might be so bad that people would actually make fun of it? Or, worse yet, tell you it's nice because they didn't want to hurt your feelings?

:)

Welcome to UHH! As a recent newcomer myself, I can appreciate how you feel. I think you can count on honest constructive criticism from some very talented folks to help you enhance your skills and genuine sincerity if someone posts that they like your shot.

I don't believe anyone would make fun of any shot you post. After all, everyone has to start somewhere and we all had to take that first step. I love this site and have learned so much in a very short amount of time.

I've also been inspired to upgrade to a better camera and I'm thrilled with it!! I give full credit to the people here who use the same model and post fantastic shots, I hope one day to be that good too.

I would love to see a pic.... :-D :-D

Would you be willing to sell it for less, say $25?

I went and did a beginner mistake I haven't done in years. I forgot my settings. Saw some deer this morning outside the sliding door, decided to have a quick picture. I grabbed my SX50 and took a few shots and they were gone. In my hurry, I didn't check all the controls, and realized later, that my settings were all goofed up. The previous night I had been taking pictures of the moon, and the camera was still preset to ISO 80, and TV-1/100th, so in the dim light my shots are not too hot! When I put the camera way I usually pre set said it on auto, everything, to anticipate just that screw up! Here's a few shots. Ugh! Anyone else have that problem?

My SX50 is fairly new to me so I haven't had the opportunity to make that mistake yet! Thanks to your post, I will make it a point to put my camera on AUTO every time I put it away!! The pics are still very good~

Both you and Linda from Maine have offered great suggestions this weekend, I love this site!!

I must be the odd one out here, Linda. I virtually never review my shots in camera &, unless I'm doing tripod work for HDR, my screen never gets turned on. My first review is on the computer when I get home. I do the same with all my cameras.

It's like being a kid at Christmas and peeking into your presents, very hard to resist looking at the screen to see "what you got"

RR, we must have been shooting the same moon. If you look close down and to the left of the moon you will see Venus. It is that time of year. And before you ask yes I have shot many a moon in my time. Even shot one across a wing of the Fields Museum in Chicago. However that is a story for another time.

Your location looks very much like mine... however, yours is a much better shot~ :-) :-)

Thank you for the amazing pics! You did a great job recreating the shots from the original photos. I find myself scrutinizing every detail to see all of the differences, wonderful!!

What is the review time that your image displays on your LCD/viewfinder after snapped?

Mine was 2 seconds 'til I missed a great op - now it's set to OFF! (Canon SX50)

Saw two magpies on the ice. Zoomed in and just as I snapped, they flew away in haste. The reason: a bald eagle was swooping in to claim the prize! It's barely visible in upper right.

Maybe next time!

It's a great action shot, the magpie looks ready to high tail it out of there! Thanks for the warning, I'll change my setting tonight :D :D
