My camera/lens combo is a Canon Rebel XSi with Canon Zoom EF-S 17-85mm IS USM lens. This has been my "walk around/travel" combo for several years. 'Till now it has performed very well. For the past few weeks however the lens, when in auto-focus mode, has had difficulty locking into focus. It continues to search for focus. I can focus it manually.
I recently acquired a Canon EF 50mm 1.8II. This lens focuses smoothly and quickly in AF mode on the same camera body, with the same settings.
Any ideas as to what the problem is with the Zoom 17-85 lens and how to fix?
For PSE12, In the Organizer's View menu, check the details you want to see below the images in the grid. PSE12 Organizer will display date/time, file name, and an icon below each image. If you mouse over the icon at the lower right of each image, Organizer gives the tag information of the image. Be aware however, if you have positioned the zoom slider at the lower right of the grid display of Organizer, towards the left end of the slide-scale, then it will reduce the info shown for each image in the grid, since their thumbnails become very small. Also, if you deselected details in the View menu, you can select any image and press Command(CNTL)+D to display its info.
Do you have DropBox installed and sync'd on more than one computer? If a folder is in the DropBox folders of two computers sharing the same DropBox account and is deleted from the DropBox folder of one computer it may be deleted from both the Cloud and from the DropBox folder of the other, sync'd computer.
I believe jerryc41 is correct. If you exclude Folder A from the DropBox folder on PC-2, DropBox will not sync Folder A from PC-1 to PC-2. Folder A (and its contents) however will be in the DropBox cloud, sync'd to Folder A on PC-1.
I have 35000 images collected over 60 years plus numerous edited versions of the originals. Storage media come and go: floppies (remember?), CD, DVD, and HD (USB 2 and 3, firewire, SCSI (remember?) and now thunderbolt. I keep my working images on an external HD, backed up to another external HD and to archival HP DVDs. This past year, I have gone a step further and backed up to "the cloud" via DropBox.
I've upgraded from PSE10 to PSE11 and again from PSE11 to PSE12 without problems. If you intend to use PSE10 and PSE12 concurrently, that's fine but bear in mind, when you upgrade to PSE12 it will want to convert your PSE10 catalog. It will preserve your PSE10 catalog with a new name. Changes and additions made to images using PSE10 will work with its native catalog and would not be reflected in the new PSE12 catalog.
Thanx Wall-E. I have a pair of cold weather golf gloves that I'll try.
Many thanx to Arca and all you other UHHer's for your suggestions, observations, comments and wishes.
Polarizing filter, check. ND filter, check. Extra point-and-shoot, check (Nikon Coolpix). Plastic bag to thwart condensation, check. Extra battery and storage card in warm pocket, check. My 17-85 crops to 27mm, so wide angle lens, well maybe. Bottle of water, check. Hat, ear muffs and lotsa clothing layers, absolutely!
Again, many thanx. I hope to followup with results.
I'm taking a one day bus tour 'Vegas to Grand Canyon (South Rim), 22 Dec. I would appreciate any suggestions regarding equipment, photo-ops, dress, etc. Canon XSi with EF-S 17-85 f4/5.6 IS.
I have used Costco with satisfactory results. But it is a Web-based system. I agree with your preference to use a desktop software to create the book then upload for printing.
Thanx for your inputs Rongnongno and SteveR. I've let it pass as another scam.
While reviewing Ugly Hedgehog photography forum digest today (perhaps the timing was coincidental) and clicking on a few of the links to read the posts, I suddenly got a 'phone call from some guy who said his name was "Shaun Watson" and that he was connected with Microsoft. (From his tone of speech, he didn't sound like a "Shaun Watson"). He gave his toll free number as 1-855-593-3163. He claimed that his web monitoring software indicated that my computer's IP address was the source of Web requests to download "illegal software or files". He said that I should see my "Microsoft technician" to have my Windows system purged of illegal software (netbots?). As it happens, I'm a Mac user, not Windows. He persisted however, and said I should then see a Mac technician at an Apple store and do the same.
What I want to know is: Is this some kind of scam? How can I check my computer (iMac/Mac OS X vers 10.8.5) to see if something illicit is going on?
