Here is something special, a virtual tour of the Smithsonian Museum room by room. Just marvelous for kids and adults. Follow the blue arrows on the floor to move into new rooms.

Shows inside and outside of the museum and there little cameras here and there which show detailed info on certain things. If you click on the floors (upper right corner) you get a floor plan of that floor and you can click on a blue circle and go directly to that room.

Watch it in full screen when you open this up. Use the roller on your mouse to move in and out. Look for the "arrows" on the floor and click on them. They take you to other places.

I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am to you for posting this. Once I got done crying (for joy and because I'm so homesick) I had a grand time touring one of my favorite museums. You brought joy to a sad heart---blessings to you!!

Sorry to be vague, my point is just a comparison between a stock set up from Canon and a cobbled together old Soligor with an adapter and a Sony nex3.
Sharpeness of new auto focus VS old manual cheap stuff.
I'm into the old Soligor $12 and a Chinese cheap $6 adapter.
The Canon ef 75-300mm cost me $200.
I struggle with the Canon in auto mode. I have to go into manual to change it to spot focus. Too many auto features to compensate for. Its a pain.
The nex & soligor is easy to dial in and shoot in no time.
And it is sharper 9 out of 10 times.
This whole thing was just an observation I found curious.

This is an interesting thread for me since I have a T1i and a NEX-5n and have been playing around with some comparison shots also. But I'm not as organized as you, so I appreciate what you did.
One question I have, what "Chinese cheap $6 adapter" for the Sony NEX do you have and where did you buy it? I'd like to use my old Canon FD "nifty-fifty" 1.8 lens on my Sony but don't want to spend a fortune on an adapter. Thanks in advance for your help!

I was surfing the net when I came across this section of the Xrite site for those who have issues with colour and hues..... just a nice simple quickish test it took me less than 5 minutes to complete and it wasn't a case of dwell and think it was just move and tweak at the end...

I scored 4

a perfect score is 0

It may even throw up issues with a monitor or even yourself... so good luck and post back your score if you take it. I may even finish it with a league table at the end.....

Ok, now I'm thoroughly depressed and will have to give up photography and find a hobby that doesn't involve colors or good eyesight! My score was 18!
No calibrated monitor, 5-year old iMac, 12-year old Scotch, 64-year old female with a 3-day old migraine.... I'm going to bed and listen to a book on tape with my knitted shawl wrapped around my shoulders and my arthritic hands reeking of Ben Gay... Oh, woe is I!!!!!!

I have always been fascinated by warthogs. They remind me of a heap of leftover animal spare parts pushed into an ill-fitting skin... finished off with a constantly smiling face! They are a wild member of the pig family found in grassland, savanna, and woodland in sub-Saharan Africa.

I can easily see why you're fascinated by these creatures. Your photo is so well taken that it makes me want to see more. Thanks for sharing this.

Finally there are some intelligent people on this forum with impeccable taste. "Jocular"? Does that have anything to do with a strap?

Do you jocular folks have any idea how difficult it is to type from the floor??? I keep falling off my computer desk chair reading these topics!! It's safer on the floor!!!!!!

Thank you so much for your comments. It is truly appreciated!!

You're more than welcome. I know I rely on people's direct experience when I'm trying to make a decision.
Being a Canon gal for years, the Nikon was a bit of a leap of faith for me. I'd seen someone using one at an orchid show I attended and was impressed with her playback on her iPad. Colors, sharpness, details, DOF were all there, without elaborate settings. I tried that myself with my P7000 set on Scene-Auto Select at a flower show and found it to be true. The only better shots I got were with my Sony NEX 5N (but that's a whole different price category!).
Enjoy your great find and post some pix, ok?

Beautiful shots as always! Thank you for braving the weather to get these. So sad the birds have to struggle from the monsoons also. The 2nd. picture is particularly my favorite!

Your control of DOF is beautiful! It's difficult for me to choose a favorite, but the one with the bees really delights me. So well done!!

Thank you so much for your advice. I have the Canon sx50 paid $350 for it at Best Buy. Just want something a bit smaller to bum around with and not be "precious" with. Something I can drop in my bag and go.

Ok, let me toss in my 2 cents' worth here....I got the Nikon Coolpix P7000 on clearance at Walmart for $149 about a year and a half ago, just after the P7100 came out. I also own a Canon SX40. IMHO, the IQ of the P7000 is so dramatically better that I carry the bulky SX40 only when I know I'll want to use the mega-zoom. Even then, I bring along the Nikon.
So my vote is to JUMP on that great deal from B&H and have fun using that gem!
