Welcome to UHH. You will be happy with an 18-200 f3.5 as a walking around do-a-lot lens. The 5300 looks like a really great camera. Have fun.

I've told my kids what my camera equipment is worth in the event of my passing. I have told my wife a completely different story. It makes her happy to see that I got such great deals.

1. maybe lens Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens for Canon
2. I have 70-200mm f2.8 really nice - it's a keeper
3. I have 24-105mm 4.0 maybe trade
4. I have 85mm f1.8 maybe trade

Now I have 3 lens that cover 85mm. I take a lot of pictures in meeting rooms so I need fast and wide. I can use flash sometimes but not during the meeting.

Question what do you think of the sigma 17-70 and/or should I look for something else?

The wife says no more money on camera stuff, so I have to be able to present a good story so she will change her mind or it is keep what I have and be happy.

I have the D15 and use it on a D7100. Frankly, I love it and I have small hands. I use it on a tripod or off. I set it to use the battery in the grip first and I am amazed at how long it lasts.I'm so glad I didn't buy one of the off-brands as I have heard nightmare reports.

I know you want a prime lens but don't discount the 70-200 f2.8. It is a great lens.

Congratulations! The P-38 had counter-rotating props and it flew pretty good.

I have a D7100 and the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 and I like it very much.

Thanks Greg and Phil. Good info to chew on.

Phil, my decision is between the Sigma and Nikon VR I. But your point is still valid and much appreciated.

I recently bought a Sony RX100. It is an amazing bridge camera.

OK. Can of worms time. Before I jump into a upscale DSLR I want to get my feet with a good bridge camera and really get a good feel for the digital world. I was using a Nikon P7700 on loan from a friend but had to return it. My picture taking will consist of grandkids (much of it indoor), family functions, vacations, and some nature photography. Suggestions id $300-$600 range? All comments welcome!!

Go to jkost.com and watch the first 5 or 6 videos by ms. kost. She is the Adobe LR5 guru and is very good at what she does.It won't take long and you will learn a lot. Good luck.

I am a bit new to the digital world and I have a question for the group. I recently shot a batch of pics in RAW. I have a Nikon so its in NEF. I used Nikons View NX2 program for transferring them to my computer and converting them to JPEG using LR5 to show them online.

Everything worked fine, and I formatted the memory card. Then a friend wanted one of the photos put on canvas for a gift so I checked Costco's canvas print recommended resolutions, and for the size this customer wants the JPEG resolution isn't big enough. I went to retrieve the NEF file to use the larger resolution image and I cant find the NEF file. It no longer appears in the batch of photos I uploaded from my cam and the pics are now deleted from the memory card. Do I do something wrong and how can I get the NEF file back, or can I? Rich

If Adobe is still offering a cloud version of CS6 and LR5 for $9.95 a month you will have the best of both worlds. I have the entire Adobe field in the cloud and I really like it. Others have a different opinion about the Adobe cloud but no one can fault the software. Have fun.

Oh wise and studious Hog members,

Am just getting into DSLR from 35mm SLR.
Likely will be buying D3300 and possibly a 18-200mm VRII to go with (or instead of) the kit lens.

What processing program would you suggest I start with?
Must be less than $200. Prefer free....

thanks
