Thank you both for your suggestions. I will practice before Saturday with higher iso and try some adjustments in aperture. When I pit the flash on I think I forgot about camera settings. Appreciate your help.
I am having a very hard time getting good shots with my flash. I didn't realize it had so many capabilities. Can anyone tell me how to set it on a basic setting for inside where it's dark i.e. Church (my granddaughter was baptized yesterday and I totally blew it...all too dark). Unless I was very close everything is too dark even when I upped the flash output. My nephew is getting married next weekend and I really want to get some good candid shots at the reception. I just need to know good basic settings. The manual is not real helpful as I am a novice with it and I don't understand what they assume I do. Thanks in advance for any help.
Just realized I sent this with half the topic missing. I am using an sb 600 with Nikon d7000.
Thank you!! I have been hanging out with bird photographers for several years and I am by no means "experienced". I got the feeling that unless youre using M mode you really don't know much about photography. I am out to try something new. Thanks for the ok to do that. Well written.
Perfect! What camera and settings?
Perfect! Can you tell us what kind of camera and lens settings?
It's beautiful! What kind of camera did you use?
Beautiful pictures! We were just in Cutler for the puffin trip out to Machias Seal Island....what an experience!
If you have the time I'd go north to Acadia too. If you don't want the crowds go to Schoodic Peninsula just north of Mt. Desert Is. Just as beautiful as Acadia but no crowds. Just beautiful rugged coastline. That whole peninsula is beautiful. Little fishing villages like Corea and Prospect Harbor, Winter Harbor. Then just a little further up the coast is Lubec...my favorite part of Maine. Go across the inlet and you're in Campobello New Brunswick, Canada. Awesome lighthouse at the top of the island. Take your passport if you go. In Lubec stay at The Inn at the Wharf...an old sardine cannery made into a gorgeous motel. Sit on the deck in the evening and watch the sunset. In Lubec you have West Quoddy Light, in Campobello Quoddy Head Light to which you can walk during low tide...oh so many things to see and photograph! I'll try to post some pics. We just got back Wed. from our visit and this is our 5th time there. Look for my photos...I'll label them Main Coast if I can figure out how to upload them. Well worth the extra couple of hours from Portland. Have fun!
Along the trail by West Quoddy Lighthouse
Prospect Harbor Lighthouse
Mulholland Point Light, across inlet from Lubec
East Quoddy Lighthouse, Campobello

Absolutely exquisite! Would you share your settings? Always trying to learn. Thanks.
You can even just bring in the card from your camera.
Definitely the family. Wedding photos don't often get the extended family...any older relatives that may not be around for the next wedding. You know the family so try to get som casuals. I got some hysterical ones at a cousin's wedding just watching the real photographer try to line up the family when there were children involved. Have fun...that's my favorite time to take pictures.
