Scale focus needs no effort other than to point and shoot with the needle in the proper scale symbol.
Everybody wants the Olympus XA rangefinder 35mm at $100+ while very few want a scale focus XA2 at $20, and the XA2 produces equivalent or better results, with less work to focus than the XA. I've used many inexpensive XA2 scale focus models, with good results. Likewise, I've worked my ass off for focus with the XA and been disappointed. XA2 Olympus are a dime a dozen and plentiful and my favorite film P&S.

I just picked up a XA2, new in box (yes, never been used) for $18.
Only ran one roll through it so far, but it works like a charm and is lots of fun to use (if I can remember to keep my finger away from the lens).
