I was told that they were river rock collected in Oklahoma. The color is consistent with a lot of the soil color there but I bet it was a job getting enough to build all the buildings. I can't imagine finding them all in one place, and picking up one or two here and there would take forever.

Had to be a fair sized project for sure.

Known as Polly Woods Ordinary. It is recognized as the first pubic place to accommodate travelers along the Buchanan to Liberty Turnpike in the early 1830's to the late 1850's. It is located in the Peaks of Otter area along the trail now known as the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Polly offered sleeping for up to 6, basic food service, and a secured area to accommodate the traveler's livestock if they had any.

Download is best.

Great shot, love the history.

Medicine Mound named for the four dolomite hills to the west is now no more than a ghost town. Located near Chillicothe 12 miles from Quanah in Hardeman, Texas. It's not too far of HWY 287 on FM 1932. Population of 500 at one time the 1940 census indicated 6 stores and only 210 people. Now just a couple of people appear to live there. The buildings are made of rounded stones, most likely river rock from Oklahoma. The original buildings burned in around 1933 and were replaced with the stone buildings, probably in hopes of avoiding another fire. What fire couldn't do away lost people did. The sign in the window says "Where did all the people go"? I think they got it right.

Looks like a golden v, high comp heads and 283. A lot of 265 were sold and people didn't realize it. Nice car, straight car , black is tough color to hide imperfections.

You got me...I have no idea.

When I was a kid up in Fairbanks, Alaska back in the 50s, a friend of mine's dad bought enough Army surplus skies to build a huge picket fence around their place. He'll of a job, he had to drill holes and use screws to make it work. They were made out of very good hardwood and you couldn't drive a nail through them. Looked great, only one in town.

Not from a .25, they have been known to bounce off people's skulls.
.22 LR is actually much more powerful. .25 is so common because it is easier to make small guns in the caliber that feed smoothly and don't jam as often.

Kind of what I said, 25s are next to worthless. Like the old saying " a 25 is okay if you don't have a gun ". They got real popular back in the day from movies and detective stories lurking around in women's purses.

25 s are ify. Story : Two muggers accost the victim, mugger (1) shoots victim in head. Shot bounces off victims noggin and hits mugger (2) and kills him. Victim ok, mugger (2) is dead, mugger (1) goes to jail for murdering his cohort in crime. Happy ending.

So did the gun jam or did her head jam? Typical product of today's educational system.

Or was her head jam?

I've looked at several posts and it looks to me as though I am no where near as good at photgraphy as the rest of you are.

I'll post a few of my photos to see what the rest of you think, do I belong here or not?

Stellar shots. I always like the north country. Spent some early years growing up in Fairbanks back in the '60s. Went over the Alcan 6 times by the time I was 16, drove a car and trailer down the Alcan at 16. Such great country to live in, makes life real. Post more photos when you can. Welcome.

This was rather exciting for me.
This Great Horned Owl, was flying directly at me. after#4 I ducked, and missed getting all of his wings as he landed.
They are very fast quiet flyers. this sequence didn't last very long, but got my heart pumping.

Desert Museum.

Hope you enjoy seeing these

Great shots. Had that happen to me with a very large hawk. I moved when he got to my toes, he flared and veered off. That day was hunting coyotes on the Salmon River breaks in Idaho. Same day watched an eagle try to knock a deer off a talus slope, it tried 6 times before he gave up. No camera #%*&# rotten luck.

You're not making sense here, Tex. The war could end very easily with the surrender of Hamas. That's one thing that Fetterman got right. Israel is making every effort to avoid civilian losses. In WWII, we did not. Dresden and Tokyo come to mind.

That's correct, they started it and we finished it. War is hell people die, darn. If you can't pay the price don't start it. Then they start crying when they get their collectve asses handed to them. TFB.
