IS is worth the money. I occasionally turn it off when on a tripod and then forget to turn it back on.......and then wonder why my pics are not crisp. Your great divide scenery looks awesome. I am a fan of the Great Divide area south of Hinton Alberta......outstanding ATV trails and scenery. Even in July the mornings are crisp and the air fresh....makes one glad to be alive !

Yes, it does make one glad to be alive. I camped out in Colo. for 9 weeks and enjoyed every second of it. It rained, wind, snowed, sunshine etc. Was a glorious time for sure. So peaceful. July is spring for Colorado.

Oh, my - thank you all so very much. This is great information. I have inherited two IS lenses from my photographer Dad. One I use the most but I have the IS turned off most of the time. But will experiment using it.

My favorite is the 28-135 1:3.5 - 5.6 IS
The other IS is a 75 - 300 1:4-5.6

Again, thank you everyone! :D

But I'm addicted. Just some more birdies.

   You must have a 400 lens to get such great sharp captures. Very nice.

I always carry a rope/string tripod on my camera bag.
The clips fasten onto belt loops on my jeans and the center point fastens to the tripod mount on ANY camera.
Your hand under the camera pulling it up, plus the 2 attachment point essentially make it a tripod that doesn't have to touch the ground. Works very nicely for that extra stability, but of course doesn't match a real tripod.

Holds your pants up while you crouch for shots then get up too. Multi-tasking!

Personally, I sometimes use the neck strap around the neck, hold the camera with both hands and press my elbows into my gut. As long as your body isn't waving around in a drunken stupor or something this works rather well.

A couple of my photos from there. Between Crested Butte and Gothic. Thought I died and went to Heaven it was so beautiful.

What is your experience and opinion of Image stabilizer lenses?

It depends on how you shoot.

If you mostly hand hold (events, sports, etc.) IS is certainly an advantage.

If you mostly use a tripod (landscape, still life, macro, portraits, etc.) IS is probably wasted money.

I hear ya on the HP. I have had my Epson 1900 for a couple of years and I love it. I had a bit of trouble at one time having the paper load, then I use alcohol on a cloth and wiped clean the paper grabber and it solved the problem. I just love Epson. Have the Epson photo scanner. I have tired HP and Canon but best so far is the Epson.

I have to get a new printer. HP and I have desolved our relationship because of printer problems. They replaced the printer and it broke. No satisfaction... If someone mentions buying a HP, slap them across the head until they change their mind. I know all have opinions on the best and most reliable so what are they? I am in the market..

That is a nice capture Sandy. May I ask what lens and setting did you use? Hard to get such a clear shot as you did.

Awesome! And do you use a remote with it too?

Here is a camera on the HandlePod held against a fence post. The exposure was steady and long enough to show traffic trails going across the bridge.
