This is the first & last picture I took of a fish.
I don't think the fish was happy with my intrusion.

I think this is a very sensitive fish. Perhaps he has all sorts of social problems, and maybe toothache. We need to think about the inner fish.

Jerry, can you tell from the manual whether it will work with a Nikon D70? It is not on the list in the Amazon description. Presumably it connects through the little funny standard rectangular camera connector, I can't see another one on the camera.

Bokeh is often confused with selective focus or shallow depth of field.

Example- a mirror lens is considered to have bad bokeh due to the doughnut-shaped out of focus highlights.

Bokeh is not that the image has shallow depth of field.
Bokeh refers to the quality of the out of focus areas.

From Wikipedia:
"the "bokeh" of the lens, that is the character of the image in the out-of-focus areas."

Bokehis used to described the out of focus blurred bits in the background when “fast glass” is used. Most often bokeh occurs where small light sources are in the background, far in the distance.

Love him or hate him, Ken Rockwell's take:

Nikon and Minolta (and I assume Canon) have lenses that adjusted the bokeh- different than just changing the aperture.

Yes OK Goofie, I got all the stuff about what it means. But you said that you hate the word - so what are you suggesting in its place?

I would suggest boke-aji (ボケ味), the "blur quality".
EDIT: LOL Looks like this editor doesn't like Japanese. I can't get rid of that smiley that's not supposed to be there.

In the famous words of the tennis player "you cannot be serious, man"! That thing is even worse than bokeh!

Capture just sounds pretentious to me and bokeh is seldom used correctly here.

My training is in photojournalism, not fine art, so that's probably why I think that way.

I think bokeh is generally understood and used correctly on UHH, but what would you suggest in its place?

Did they do this stuff in the days of black and white silent movies? It would have been very effective.

I use a Vello Shutter Boss intervalometer for Canon, it's $52.50.
Here's the list from B&H, you would have to go through and pick out the proper one for your Nikon.

I and many others use Quick Time Pro to process the images you take using the Vello into the final TL video.

Thank you, and Jerry and others.

As has been said already, I am not launched on another distraction from what I should be doing...........

Hi Lorenww
Not fully understanding he difference, is this an example "selective colouring" rather than "spot colouring"?
Brushing through a coloured version onto a B&W background?

This one (church window) looks creepy to me, rather like an extract from some sort of horror movie.

Incidentally, no one has yet made a comparison between this spot/selective colour on photos and in films. I thought it was really effective in Schindler's Lists, the red coated girl lost in all the black and white people and background. Brilliant.

My facetious remark that brought your name up early in this thread was because of your "green poo" comment in another thread about selective or spot color. I still chuckle at that comment because I thought it was spot on. I would have used stronger wording but this is a public site.
I love your sometimes bluntness on this website- counters the "nice capture" comments that are so freely given out and I know it echoes the thoughts of several members. BTW, I hate the word "capture"... maybe more than bokeh.

Keep posting, please!

I can put up with "capture" it is to the point and clear. Bokeh - I don't particularly like the word, but what is there another one with the same meaning? What do you suggest?

Good question, I was going to raise it myself. Can I get time lapse out of my D70? Do I need to buy an intervalometer, and if so, which? And do I connect it all together afterwards in software and if so, please recommend. (I am not meaning to hijack the thread, but I hope my question complements it).

I have seen it somewhere that DX format will not go away and one of the reasons is it cost less to manufacture the DX sensor than the FX sensor. Still it does not matter the size of the sensor in the right circumstance FX is better for high ISO and DX is better for full frame lens (crop factor uses the central portion of the lens). My two and a half cents.

Yes, I am sure you are right at present, that is why I have both at present. But I cannot help thinking in the long run, that the DX sensors are going to keep getting better ahead of the game and leave the FX standing.
