Ouch! I had to look up that word. Jim Bob you remind me of a local radio host from a couple of years ago. He would say the most offensive things on the air until one day I called to blast him off. He told me in a very humorous way that his show was for "entertainment purposes". At that point I understood. Bottom line, you do seem to know a thing or two about photography. Please try to be nicer in your comments. I practice "Detente"

I agree with everything that you've posted DaveO. This is suppose to be about photographers "helping" other photographers. The nasty replies aren't necessary. Notice how many "hogs" logged off because of the direction that this post has taken. There was another member from a few years ago that was always posting rude and snide remarks, always engaging in personal wars instead of dealing with the topic. I believe that person was booted off. Admin needs to take a look at this. I've noticed this occurring more frequently lately. This forum is starting to remind me of the fac..... forums or whatever they are called that some of my friends belong to. Everyday the members are engaged in these mini personal wars. My apologies to the original poster and hopefully you received your answer between all of the other garbage. LETS BEHAVE LIKE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PEOPLE! We share this crazy passion for photography.

Cholly, like you I am a Sony fan and have read many of your posts and generally agree with you. However you stated that a T.C. would not be neccessary with the "Smart Teleconverter" function. This is true only if you shoot in one of the jpeg modes. This option is not available if you are shooting in raw. I did use ST recently at a football game and was very impressed. As far as the 24-70ii I would like to read some actual user reveiws since I did read some comparison charts of both the 24-70 and 16-35 version i vs ii and in some categories the version i outperformed the updated ii. Cholly have you shot with the 70-200ii? The user reviews that I have read basically stated the biggest difference between it and the orginal was focus speed (ii was quicker) and on paper the only difference was some nano coatings. Please take this as a less experienced Alpa guy asking a more experienced one your opinion. Way too many wars and pi..... contests on this site lately. Oh and I agree with what you stated regarding the Sony Zeiss 85mm prime. It takes a stunning pic. I even use it for indoor basketball pics.

Based on the gear you own and your type of photography, you are right, there are two primary choices with two alternates.

The Sony 70-400mm G (I & II) is one of the SHARPEST lenses in the class. EXCELLENT optics. It will serve you extremely well for your plane in flight images and with your "Smart Teleconverter" function an optical T.C. is completely unnecessary.

The Sony Zeiss 24-70mm is another outstanding lens, especially on the A77. It will be very useful for static, ground images of aircraft on the flight line and even medium to low wide angle crowd shots. It too is crystal clear, and has a beautiful rendering of almost ever thing you photograph. I have not tried the II version, but it is supposed to be even better than the original.

The Sony 70-200mm G was a good lens, but it did not perform up to the standards of other lenses in that category. But the new 70-200mm G II actually DOES address all of the shortcomings of the original, and IS one of the best in class. Of course, it is also the most expensive... so I can't give you a recommendation because of that fact. You would be better off with the original G or the Tamron mark II version for much, much less.

Finally, take a look at the Sony Zeiss 85 mm prime. It is the best lens ever tested on your camera... just totally outstanding image quality under ALL photographic conditions. Again, great for static shots and closeups on the flight line.

GOOD LUCK!

I do agree "A lot of the difference is cultural". And to give you a little inside information those black students that you spoke of probably grew up watching their parents working jobs that did not require a high degree of education. The biggest role models they saw were on TV playing pro sports. These "Black" students may feel that a higher education is not in their future manly due to finances. But on a closer note my "Black" students work just as hard in the library as they do on the field/court.

Totally agree and may I add that after highschool I joined the military. Due to what I learned from playing football in school, basic training was a piece of cake. The major difference was I didn't go home at night and some of the things we threw could kill you. Football taught me teamwork, dedication, commitment and it reinforced what I had learned at home about how to respect authority. Another positive of highschool sports is the college scholarships that some, granted not a big percentable of the athletes receive. For many its a gods send because otherwise they would not have the opportunity. JerryC41 I follow and luv most of your posts but I"m on the other side of the fence on this one. You sound like someone that didn't play sports in school. BTW post some pics of the homes of the football teams owners if you want to express the life style of the rich. And please don"t take this as a personal attack, of which I have noticed far too many on this site lately. In closing has anyone else noticed the attention the young ladies are getting as far as sports goes? I love it, and as the father of 4 (2 boys 2 girls) I'M glad to see them finally getting a slice of the pie.

Just a couple points: football put me through college. It taught me perseverance, gave me good work ethic and forced me to be accountable to others. Most high schools (if not all high schools) have academic standards that must be met in order to play. All schools that I have been around have training rules such as no smoking, no alcohol, no drugs and no illegal activities. Do they have those have the same standards at the pool hall or the local Quick Mart corner hangout? A high schooler is going to do something. Would you prefer your son spent his time on a football field or on a street corner? If you think that a professional football player works only 5 months a year, you are a fool. It takes a 12 month commitment. When I graduated from college, I read a study that said the average life span of a running back in the NFL (not playing life but real life) was 52 years.

I have conducted business with their stores in the greater dayton area and the huge store in cincinnati since 2010. I'm very pleased with the service and prices. I was shocked (pleasantly)at the trade in value they gave me for my canon gear when I switched to sony. Not to get off topic and I know alot of members here are very pleased with a couple of the big email order stores, but for me there is nothing like going to a local candy (camera) store and touching/trying out before i buy. Dodd's prices are very reasonable. And on the customer service side I had an issue this past year where one of their employees had started a editing project for me and before he finished it had left the company. Somehow everything of mine was missplaced. I received several calls from a bigwig at the corp location in cleveland and he worked with me non stop until my issue was resolved. Amy at the beavercreek location has worked with me since day one and knows my interests, you only get this at a local brick and mortal store. So to answer the question, "great store".

The Italian Man of His House With his Italian wife!

Anthony had just finished reading a new book entitled, "You Can Be The Man of Your House".

He stormed to his wife in the kitchen and announced, "From now on, you need to know that I
am THE MAN of this house and my word is Law. You'll prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and
when I'm finished eating my meal, you'll serve me a sumptuous dessert."

"After dinner, we're going upstairs and we'll have the kind of sex that I want."

"Afterwards, you're going to draw me a bath so I can relax. You'll wash my back and towel
me dry and bring me my robe. Then, you'll massage my feet and hands. Then tomorrow, guess
who's going to dress me and comb my hair?"

His Sicilian wife Nancy replied, "The frickin' funeral director would be my first guess!"

Many many good posts here on this subject! I really truly feel your pain and I feel for your kids. Going through the same thing myself, If if no one knows what your going through I do! I've thought all day of what to say but others already have. I'M VERY VERY PRO FAMILY but man get out of it. I couldnt figure out why until just now. If she was truly sorry for her actions she would have said so, we all have come short. Her response was to play the blame game, which means she feels she has done nothing wrong. Will you ever be able to trust her again? To forgive is devine, to be used is something else. Feel free to private msg me. I'll pray for your family and stay stong.

I took off my wedding band around 8:00 or so last night. I didn't do a FB status update to mark the occasion.

It's been more than 12 hours and there is still an indention and a lighter stripe of skin to remind me where it was.
By this time next week, both should be gone.

I suspected that something was going on. But there is a big difference between suspecting and actually finding out. Last night I had a conversation with the other guy. He confirmed that they are a couple and have been physical. He didn't know that she was married, but didn't seem to terribly concerned to find that she was married.

The wife called me later in a rage. How dare I intrude into her life! She was actually attempt to keep two households--me and the kids in one and her other guy and his daughter in another.

Her family in California was starting to suspect something and she had been hiding. Now it's out and she hates me for telling them.

What a mess.

I have both the Sony A77(crop sensor) and A99(full frame). They are from the same generation and the A77 has been replaced by the A77II. I mainly shoot sports 50/50 daughter's basketball, indoors with poor lighting and son's football outdoors during the day. I use the same lens on both bodies. The extra reach is nice with the crop body A77 but indoors I can crank up the ISO on the full frame A99 and get much cleaner pics and faster shutter speeds to better freeze the action. In situations which do not require quick shooting, i.e. events like birthday parties I have discovered that pics taken with the A99 are superior to the A77 in dynamic range and have a "almost hard to describe" presence. It has superior IQ! Again this is while using the same lens. Post processing is easier with the A99 also because the pics taken with it require less adjustments. I have read many owner reviews on the A77II and while the majority feel it's IQ is superior to the A77 it still does not quite match the A99. So yes each new generation of cameras generally are better then the last but when you compare same generation crop vs full frame cameras the full frame is always going to win. I read a comment here recently in a similar discussion where a gentleman expalined that he races cars and that there is no substitution for cubic inches, the bigger the engine (sensor)the better. (

I read that Thom Hogan decided to scrap FX and go back to DX. Then Ken Rockwell said you can't really tell the difference any more between full frame and crop sensor.

The main reason I bought the FULL FRAME bodies was because I thought the larger sensor would make a considerable difference in larger prints. But they are not very comfortable for my short fingers. . . so was it a waste to go FX? Should I consider reconsidering?

It is what it is. . . but I was wondering if anybody here had anything to add to what Hogan and Rockwell said. (which was not really very much)

Awesome! inspiring for those that feel it's not neccessary to spend a fortune on gear to get great results. Your work also supports those that feel it's more inportant to spend the money on the lens rather then the camera, assuming the 300mm is a prime lens. I don't want to get off subject, "thanks" for the reply and post more

Bugguy, it was an entry level DSLR, the Nikon D3000; used a 300MM lens for some pics.
