A few shoots with slightly different head positions. Canon 1Dx II with 600mm IS II F4 and 2x Extender III on a tripod

I cropped away almost half the picture to get in tighter than even 1200mm allowed.

All at 1/1600 sec F8 ISO 250 (wide open with 2x TC)

Very nice!!

Hi,
I'm Silke, I live in Bavaria, Germany.
Someone suggested your forum to me, when I asked for a friendly, helpful photography forum (because I prefer forums to G+ or FB groups)
I own a Canon 550D, with the Canon lens it came with, and a Tamron Tele Lens. (Not sure which one right now.)
It was kit purchased by my boyfriend, who has sadly passed away.
I lived in the UK for 25 years, but have moved back to Germany (my birthplace)
Mainly I am wanting to learn about the technical aspects, which I'm blithely ignorant about. :)
F-Stop, smefstop... I know very little about setting up a shot -- even though my boyfriend was a professional camera man. :) I point and shoot, mainly.
I do play with apertures, but honestly...it's all trial and error.
There are zero photographers around here, we're extremely remote.
However, the landscape is beautiful, and I have several photogenic creatures running around the place. (Horses, Cats, Dogs...)
So that's me. :)

Interesting, I used to work in Nisku. My son and his wife and two kids live in Leduc. It's cold there. I was there for a week at Christmas, couldn't wait to get home.

I'm new to this forum and looking for some feedback on a general walk around lens for a 7D ii. I'm looking at the cannon 18-135 stm and the 24-105 stm. The 18-135 looks like the kit lens but the 24-105 stm has some good reviews. I'm looking to use the lens for general photography and outside track and field. Both lens are in the right price point for me right now. Thanks for your help!

I have the 24-105 lens and really like it but I use it on a full frame camera. I would prefer the 15-85 lens on the crop sensor of a 7DII over the 18-135 as it is better at getting crisp photos especially around the outer edges. You should be able to pick up a 15-85 lens used for a reasonable price because they were included in some kits. I have owned both the 18-135 and the 15-85 and was more impressed with the latter. I hope this helps.

OK, just curious, which of these do you prefer & why?

This was a perfect late afternoon setting of the Bridgeton Mill, Bridge & Dam over the Big Raccoon Creek in Bridgeton, Indiana. The bridge is 245 feet long and was rebuilt in 2006.

I like #1, to me it just looks more balanced and has all of the covered bridge in it.

I read a review on B & H that it could not be done with 10.10.5.

I am running OSX Yosemite on a MacBook Pro and downloaded Lightroom 6 from their website but haven't tried from a DVD.

Live in Colorado and have been reading the forum for about a year and now have a question for more experienced users.

My wife shoots with a T5i and I use a 7D Mark ll. I shoot mostly with a Tamron 150-600, while she uses a zoom EF-S 18-135 1:3.5-5.6 IS STM (kit lens that came with camera). We want to purchase a lens for landscape photography that would be suitable for use with both cameras. We are looking at the Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS USM for higher quality glass and more user friendly for low light conditions. On our crop cameras that would be about 27-88 mm.

Is there a lens that I might be overlooking that would be of the same build quality and image quality with IS that would a give wider angle of view on a crop sensor camera?

The budget dictates $1,000.00 as maximum cost.

Thanks for any suggestions.....

Although I don't have the lens any more, I used the Canon EFS 17-55 F2.8 lens for about 2 years and loved it. I sold it when I bought my 6D, but now I wish I had it back again to use on my 7D MKII. When I purchased it I went from the 18-135 lens and was very impressed with the crisp photos and I really like IS. You may be able to purchase a used one, they are quite a popular lens.
