I purchased a photo-album / scrapbook a few years age. The person from whom I bought it stated his Grand-father (Uncle?) bought it when he was in the US Army in 1922. It does have a notation inside the front cover “Purchased in Paris 1922”

It contains: Photographic prints, Photo reproductions, Postage stamps, Revenue Stamps, Poster Stamps, Tickets and some other paper items. The photos are basically of two kinds. First is forty prints measuring about 6-7/8 by 4-7./8 inches. Then many smaller ones measuring about 2-7/8 inches by 1-5/8 inches.

The larger ones are described in an accompanying list as a “Photographic History of the A. E. F. in France 1917-19918.” I have confirmed that at least some of the larger prints are US Army Signal Corps photos. However, they have no Signal Corps logos printed on them.

This means that who ever compiled this album had access to Signal Corps photos during or shortly after the war.

Is the size of these larger photos consistent with the camera that Signal Corps personnel used? Where Signal Corps photos available to other than US Army personnel during the war?

Considering the size of the smaller photos what is the likely camera (Or film) used?

Shown below are some of the larger photos along with their description by the compiler of the album.
4, 8, 10, 23, Most are somewhat faded or yellowed. Converted to black and White.

Outside the other day and a large bird lit high up in a tree in my back yard.
Ran and got my 300 mm F4 and got three shots before he left.

Strong back lighting and even with spot metering I had to increase exposure by 2.5 in processing to get the picture.

He must have heard me since his head is turned 180 degrees.

What species of bird is this?

Another shot of the Tiny Spider He decided to sit still so I did a stack. Used a Nikon 200 mm macro lens with a Canon DC250 close up attachment lens. This shot provides much more magnification. Actual size of spider is about 3 mm. Stack of 55 layers. More detail here, but eyes not seen in this view. Some chromatic aberration that I could not fix in Photoshop.
What are the projections at the end of the abdomen?
Working distance was only about 1-1/2 inches for this shot. Gave me a chance to use my new ring light.
AmScope LED-144-YK-LED. This light was made for microscopes. It fits on the DC250. I have made an adapter so it will fit my 200 MM f4 Nikon lens. Of course it is only useful for tripod use in the studio.

Very small spider found in bath tub. Just under 3 mm long. Some day maybe I should put together a series of bugs found in the bath tub.

Bug found in the bathtub. The faint green squares on the lower right are one mm on a side.

I have always found it difficult to position a dead insect for photography.
I placed this one on a piece of a cotton ball and adjusted its position.

Rongnongno: Thanks for the heads-up on expiration. Epson says 6 Mo. after opening and
two years shelf life before opening. User experience has shown these are conservative estimates.

Rjaywallace: Thanks for the tip. Ran head cleaning six times and it cleared up.

I have an Epson SP1400. It is a six color printer and it has done a good job for the last three or four years.

It quit printing yellow. I cleaned the heads and put in a new cartridge and the same problem.
No yellow in the prints. Looks like I had a bad cartridge or the printer tubing is obstructed.

I hesitate to buy a new cartridge just to see if the one I put in was bad. It was a year or two old.

Is there any fix this other than getting a new printer?

Any suggestions for a new six color printer?
I prefer to stay with Epson, but am willing to change for a good reason.

Melanistic spider. This one dark, without color, except for part of two leg segments and bristles that are white. Appears to be genus Neoscona, probably N. crucifera. the spider is resting on a web-worm web.

Melanism in spiders is not unknown, but I have found no reference to melanism in this species.

Very nice! The antennae have some artifacts from the stack, but those would be easy to patch in and clean up with Photoshop or Gimp.
As to what it is, well... probably safe to say it is in the family Noctuidae (a huge family!), but IDing to species would be daunting to say the least. Look here to see what one would be facing: http://bugguide.net/index.php?q=search&keys=Noctuidae&search=Search
Mark: I noticed the artifacts. Perhaps I will try PhotoShop on them in the near future.
Thanks for the link. Looks like ID to species is out of reach by photo alone.
