I took three pictures in a row (no post processing except for re-size). Number 2 has a fog line running through the tree roots up through the porch. Any idea what it is. I added the other two pictures for comparison. It looks like a PP brush stroke, but I didn't go there.

I see the Varied Thrush once in a while in Portland and they sometimes travel with Robins. A friend of mine said that a Robin is also a Thrush.

Good for you! After you retire maybe you can use some of those great computer skills to tweak a photo or two. It can be fun.

I agree but people who don't like computer or are afraid of computers and don't care enough to process their photos will always put raw down.
I just wish they would just say raw is not for them an leave it at that, but people feel the need to defend their choices.
Happy Holidays

Let me start with Happy Holidays, and then point to how your comment can turn on you.

There may be people who, for whatever, reason, simply do not want to Post Process. If I justify my reason, it's due to the fact that I am considerably computer literate, and it's my career. Has been for 20 plus years. I happen to be very good at it and enjoy it immensely.

OTOH, I have been shooting film and now digital for 40 years and it has also been enjoyable. I enjoy that photography has always allowed me to escape the workaday portion of my life and be creative with the camera and associated gear.

Now that the associated gear includes computers and software, the world is getting a bit mixed up for me. So, I begrudge the part that makes me set my camera down and work on images on the computer. It's just not enjoyable, nor do I consider it creative in the sense creativity was with camera work alone.

Then, to carry into another part of your comment, there are those who love their computers and software far more than I do, when it comes to photography. At some point, those people sometimes lay their camera's down too much, and spend their time weighted to the Post Processing side.

In my thinking, there is a point at which those people are no longer photographers, but rather graphic artists.

It's a fine point, and I wouldn't argue which is better or worse. However, for me... Computers and Software are my way of making a decent living. Camera's - film or digital - are my pastime. I'd rather keep the use of the computers as they relate to digital as simple as possible.... downloads, image organization, and a minimum of PP. RAW is the point where I draw the line, because by itself, a RAW file is of NO value in my estimation of keeping my photography simple.

I don't do RAW. I don't care what others do, and I do not lack knowledge and computer skills, and I do not fear my computer. (Well except for a car accident many years ago when a computer in the back seat jumped over the seat and slashed my forehead and scalp open... I just tell people the scar is from a fencing accident when I was on the fencing team in Harvard)

Interesting discussion in any event. I think I'll log in tomorrow and start another RAW vs other formats discussion.

Oh wait, we haven't had a thread post about the oil spots from the badly designed Nikon D600 in a couple of days. Maybe that tomorrow.

Oh yes... as you suggested... RAW is not for me.

I plan on using auto focus on both cameras. I have installed additional large zoom ring tabs on each camera for easier access and the remote shutter for the still camera in hand should help. The video is for my Son-In-Law (the coach) and the stills are for me (possible post game sales). I was worried about permission from the players, but Captain C. assured me it was OK. I'm still young (67), so I should be able to focus for a 90 minute game.

The good news is I spent no money on this bracket. The bad news is I actually thought it was an original idea. I guess it was for me but Somebody else had it first. Did you see the price on the Manfrotto bracket? I like their products, but we'll see how mine works for me.

My first time video- taping a soccer game was a mild success. My camera has the capability to take snapshots while video-taping but they aren’t high quality. I could take stills from the video itself, but they are even worse quality. My thinking then became why not take pictures with my old bridge camera at the same time and get good quality. The video camera pretty much runs all the time and I can use a remote shutter on the still camera. I mounted the two cameras side by side and will use a monopod. Soccer season isn’t ‘till next Spring so I haven’t tried it out yet.

Sure - Photoshop CS6 is the main and then I used NIK Silver Efex Pro2 for the monochrome part. I also use NIK Viveza and NIK Color Efex 4. I also have a bunch of actions that automate tedious procedures.

I would never encourage anyone to start with Photoshop- the learning curve is VERY shallow (yes, shallow is tough, steep is easy). I would suggest Photoshop Elements as it also accepts most of the plug-ins that Photoshop does.

Well... I have CS6 and NIK Silver Efex Pro2, and I must say that you make it look easy! Thanks for sharing your workflow on this one. I've done it several times now, and I always seem to find a way to make it harder on myself. :-) True---CS6 is not for beginners. Practice, practice, practice...

Unless you short the battery terminals or the plug, the battery should remain at close to full charge. A battery just not used, after a period of time, will lose some of its charge.

It looses its memory.
