Snapped the dance floor at my sisters 60th wedding anniversary and cropped out a nice shot of her and her husband. Her husband had just been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is now just completing his 6th round of heavy chemo after brain surgery. I'd like to give them this shot as a present for all they have been through together but that bookcase in the right background is driving me nuts and I haven't been able to get it out. I know there are many of you hogs out there that are much more proficient at this sort of thing than me (because I've see your work). Any help would be greatly appreciated and if possible to fill it with the brick that's on the rest of the wall would be fine. Thanks for looking and any help you may have............

I see that the couple has nice, clean edges. Based on some of the shadows in the background I might try and cut them out and replace the entire background. As long as the colours balance and the lighting works, you could get some very nice results. You could soften the edges of the couple a bit to make them blend better into a new background.

Hoping for a good outcome after treatment too. I will keep the couple in my thoughts.

I could and have done in the past but this time I am going to ask, rather than ask someone to do it for you, why can you not use this as a learning experience and try it yourself, you have many posts and have been here some time, do you have editing software......

Nothing to do this with. I just posted a photo that I practiced on in the Photo Section called "Shelter From the Storm" but it was much easier to work on than this. I don't have Photoshop because I find the learning curve way over my head and Gimp isn't much better. Am learning about the erasing tool which I have used but can't get decent results with this shot---keep taking off his head. If I was able to do it I wouldn't have asked for someone else's help......

I have attempted several times to do as you requested but fear I am just not skillful enough with the editing programs I have. My attempts made the area more noticeable, not less. I think that they will love this photo and not even notice the bookshelf at all, so long as you do not point it out.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do, sorry I could not be of any assistance.

This is my first attempt to remove and replace a background with PS Elements. Hopefully it looks better than the bookshelf.
