I went out and got a cheap SunPak CPL and took it on vacation. I set it so that the skies were bluest but now have a blue cast to shadows in many of my shots.
I have used the polarizer many times before and have never noticed a blue cast to the shadows.
My question. Do all CPL's do this or just the cheap ones?

Go with quality filters-you can't have any weak links. Singh-Ray makes a 1.5 stop warming polarizer . Look into what they offer and buy once.

Hello UHH friends. Happy Thanksgiving coming up. I hope we all have lots of great photo opportunities. I have a couple questions. If you own a crop sensor camera can you obtain the same type of pictures produced by a full frame camera by factoring in the crop sensor and choosing lenses accordingly? What is the main reason a person would jump from a crop sensor to a full-frame camera? Now that the 5D Mark II is coming down in price, is this a good upgrade since I own a 7D? I primarily shoot people/landscapes. Would investing in glass be wiser? Thanks for your ideas.

I have two Nikon Cameras.

1. D80

1. Nikon 1 J1

I have four lens going from 10mm to 300 mm length.

I have the Nikon 1 lens adapter which gives each of my lens
a 2.7 magnification factor.

I would love to begin to "edit' my photos within a photo editor but I have never used one.. I would appreciate any comments on what anyone might consider a beginners photo editor to begin my knowledge "build up" to using the more advanced photo editors....

The NX2 program which came within my camera purchases for Nikon's photo editing is a bit juvenile for what I am wanting to have in an editor...

Any and all opinions will be greatly appreciated...

Thank you.

I would start with Lightroom. You need a filing system first , camera raw, and it has increasingly better editing features with each new edition. Plus many plug-ins are available. A no-brainer.

I have always disliked B&H photo's policy of requiring signatures on UPS shipments, but understood it in light of security and the value that might be in a shipment. It's a policy that is inconvenient and irritating at best, and particularly troublesome in the cases where I need something the next day and then have to waste time waiting for the UPS truck.

Earlier this year, I asked B&H if I could have a shipment held at the UPS center in my town. They said "no", so I decided that I would no longer purchase from them.

After that, I found that UPS has a service whereby I could pay $5 and have a shipment sent to a UPS retail store rather than my house. Problem solved, I thought. So I placed an order with B&H last Friday. I went into the UPS web facility to redirect the shipment and found the option not there. I called UPS to find out why, and they said that B&H restricts UPS from doing that.

I subsequently chatted with the B&H representative asking him to remove that restriction. He said that it was against B&H's policy to do that, and he would not. He apologized very nicely for the inconvenience.

This is a customer-hostile position for them to take, and I will take my business elsewhere. I am sure that B&H will not know the difference.

Agree..Lack of flexibility is a real irritant.I have wasted a few days waiting on UPS. Other then their lack of delivery options, B&H has been very professional.

Its the new boy again !

Looking to acquire a tripod and have been told :

1-Go high end , the low price ones will disappoint eventually
2-Avoid a central post because it reduces stability , even in the high end ones

Your views please.

The dream is to get into Macro stuff once I have worked out how to turn the camera on .

Have "borrowed" a macro lens from my son and even went on a macro photography course , getting excited.

The appeal is that this type of work can be done indoors and seeing the weather thats predicted for the winter in the UK I dont think that I will be getting out much!

A book fell on my head while I was in bed last night . I blame myshelf. Apologies

Of all the various software companies we deal with, is Adobe the most difficult /onerous in resolving issues? From long wait times , impersonal online exchanges, little support for software of earlier editions, as examples. On a positive note : Apple and Nik , have been first class.
Adobe is in many ways the old telephone company - a nexus for our imaging world.

I changed from a PC to a MAC about two months ago, and still haven't purchased anything to edit photos. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Lightroom, Aperture, Elements, etc. I am not a professional, but would like to be able to do some editing, besides the basic things that come with the computer.

Go with LR. Build your system from a solid foundation.

Hi everyone, I'm hoping I can get some good advice here on UHP because I need help. I'm ready (at least I think I am) to move up a level in my photography and have thought of purchasing Photoshop CS6 (I use Photoshop Elements 10 now) plus a new, more powerful laptop. Is there a general standard laptop, a semi or pro photographer uses? My main concern is the sort of processor and amount of RAM required to operate the various programs I have and obviously give me the best performance.
Cost is also a deciding factor but am prepared to make a sacrifice for the right kit. Any ideas friends? Thank you, Graham.
