This guy lives in a small pond that for some reason he thinks he owns. When you get his attention it is a pretty good idea to back off. He is quite aggressive. During mating season you really have to be careful. Keeps you alert, that's for sure.

He is around 11 or 12 feet. When he crosses the road near his pond he is longer than the road is wide and it's about 10 feet wide. He won't hold still long enough for me to measure him with my tape.LOL. He is big and very very fast. I have seen him catch birds.

I was out at the pistol range one day and stopped on the way home to let my dog go for a swim [Lab]. He lost his frisbee under the water and would not come back until he found it. A huge Gator was coming for him and I had to go into the water and bring the dog back to shore. I had my wife stand on the shore with the 45 in case the gator got too close. Luckily I got the dog out before we were in any real danger. Now, that will get your blodd pumping.

That fellow needs a bigger home. Happy ending for you and the lab. Good shot of the gator also.
