This was a full day that included two excursions. We docked in the morning at Breisach Germany, had breakfast and then departed on the included 4-hour tour. The Viking description is as follows:
“Explore the dense, lofty fir forests of Germany’s Schwarzwald, the fabled Black Forest. Meet your guide at your ship, then embark on a scenic motor coach excursion through a mythical land of cuckoo clocks, glassblowing and timeless fairy tales. You will begin with a drive into the woods, passing the wine-producing villages of Ihringen, Gottenheim and Bötzingen, each of them cradled among the soft, undulating hills and prolific vineyards of southwestern Germany. After a photo stop, continue to the beautiful Hofgut Sternen hotel, a loyal keeper of Black Forest traditions. During your visit, you may choose your immersion into Black Forest culture: take a forest stroll, attend a demonstration of cuckoo clocks or glassblowing, or learn to make the decadent Black Forest Cake for which this region is known. After, you will return to your ship via Freiburg, a major university and ecclesiastical center.”

The drive through the Black Forest was beautiful. When we got to the main stop in Titisee-Neustadt, we attended the cuckoo clock demonstration. We wandered around the gift shop after the demonstration and yes, we bought a clock. We didn’t get a cuckoo clock, as we already have two of them, but got a different kind instead (a glass dome type that now sits on the mantle above our family room fireplace). We then had some of the delicious Black Forest Cake in the Black Forest. We wandered around the glass blowing shop and outside, took some photos and then returned to the ship via a scenic drive.

These are great Dennis. I love the bicycle and the clocks. I had a clock like the one (top right) with the deer head. I inherited it when my mother passed away. I was so beautiful, but I lost it when my house burned in 1987.

I’m so sorry, Jo, but I forgot to post a reply to your kind comment. I appreciate your warm welcome and am glad to be back among my photo buddies. After I turned 80, my wife started hanging a note around my neck whenever I go out saying ‘His name is John, call this number and I’ll pick him up’. It seems to be working.

No apologize necessary and I know that "back here" is a good place to be.
What a lucky guy you are John. At least she didn't put "just keep him".

I’ve been a member of UHH for quite a while but was forced to withdraw from active participation because of on-going medical problems. I’ve continued monitoring the site and enjoy B&W photography so I decided to drag out a few of my oldies and give them another run around the track.

Great photo! Welcome back John. I'm so glad to see you back here and posting again. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful work.

You are such a a dear 🩵

I thank you so much, but sometimes very few people respond 🥹

I know that too. Happens to all of us at quite often and then sometimes they get busy and just are not looking. That's their loss.

Jo, I go for the birds, and on most days, the best I get are Turkey vultures (which I love) but in 4600 acres, there's miniscule variety - and some days just scenery 😯

That's OK Joe, because it's a good thing to save anything that is beautiful to us now, so we will have it to look at in case there comes a time when we can't get out to see it for a while, or take MORE photos of it.

Wow! There's the perfect location for a movie. Almost every horror movie has a chair rocking by itself.

The chair would have just been a calm opening scene. The rest would have scared most people out of the theatre!

Thank you Jo. Can you imagine living there?

I have imagined living almost everywhere Dennis. Imagining is only the third best thing from being there.
Being there 1st, Photos, 2nd, Imagining 3rd.

Please don't remove the photo. Looks like a Gray Vireo to me and I think it's a pretty picture. They are a very light birds so darkening the picture a tiny bit with Gamma control would make it just right.

Everywhere you look 💛💛💛

To me, the very best thing about photography is that we can save the beauty around us, not only to keep for the rest of our lives but to look at and remember during the seasons that have a little less of it. These are so beautiful and you save them and share them so well. Thank you Joe.

Barb, great shots but you and your friend MUST take a 45 minute drive to Bell Buckle Tn. TINY town (about 410 people). I would have moved there if my son hadn't lived in Alabama when I downsized and moved. A friend of mine used to own the Bell Buckle Arts and Crafts shop there (sadly she passed away), but the OLD OLD town is full of adorable shops. People come there from EVERYWHERE and usually return again and again. You park on a huge quilt pattern on part of the street. Bell Buckle Cafe is a wonderful place to eat and you never know when some country music star will suddenly pop in, sit down and belt out a few songs.
Check out this vid.

PS: There are some super beautiful horse barns to shoot along the way. You can even stop in one or two to visit and they would let you shoot some beautiful world champion horses.
