This was a full day that included two excursions. We docked in the morning at Breisach Germany, had breakfast and then departed on the included 4-hour tour. The Viking description is as follows:
“Explore the dense, lofty fir forests of Germany’s Schwarzwald, the fabled Black Forest. Meet your guide at your ship, then embark on a scenic motor coach excursion through a mythical land of cuckoo clocks, glassblowing and timeless fairy tales. You will begin with a drive into the woods, passing the wine-producing villages of Ihringen, Gottenheim and Bötzingen, each of them cradled among the soft, undulating hills and prolific vineyards of southwestern Germany. After a photo stop, continue to the beautiful Hofgut Sternen hotel, a loyal keeper of Black Forest traditions. During your visit, you may choose your immersion into Black Forest culture: take a forest stroll, attend a demonstration of cuckoo clocks or glassblowing, or learn to make the decadent Black Forest Cake for which this region is known. After, you will return to your ship via Freiburg, a major university and ecclesiastical center.”

The drive through the Black Forest was beautiful. When we got to the main stop in Titisee-Neustadt, we attended the cuckoo clock demonstration. We wandered around the gift shop after the demonstration and yes, we bought a clock. We didn’t get a cuckoo clock, as we already have two of them, but got a different kind instead (a glass dome type that now sits on the mantle above our family room fireplace). We then had some of the delicious Black Forest Cake in the Black Forest. We wandered around the glass blowing shop and outside, took some photos and then returned to the ship via a scenic drive.

Thanks Jim, it was a great place to visit. Exquisite is a good description of the bicycle, an amazing (and functional) piece of woodworking.

Over forty-years ago, when I was in the Black Forest German friends of mine told me that the Black Forest was literally dead. It didn't look like it to me but they insisted that acid rain had doomed it. Thanks for showing me they were wrong with such beautiful photos.
