You might think about HDR. Will require multiple exposures (3-7) and HDR processing software. Lots of tutorials on how to do this.

I've had a very similar experience, trying to get this window to stay closed. The only way I could manage it was to restart the computer. It is some sort of virus, I've been told. I do not know how to get rid of it either.

I have seem many photos of hummers eating out of someone's hand. All you need to do is get closer and let them get used to your presence when they are feeding. When you are successful let us all know.
