Another technique when you're dealing with a fairly uniform area like sky is to draw a selection around the object, feather the selection, move the selection off a little to the side, copy what's there, then paste it and move it back over the wire, flagpole, or whatever other offending item is giving you the problem. The latest version of Photoshop has a neat tool where you just select the troublesome object and tell Photoshop to fill in using the surrounding area. I haven't used the tool myself, but some of the examples they have posted are astounding.
