I agree. I haven't used it since I put it on my Kindel. I may get to see what it looks like on a Fire tomorrow.
:D

The D5100 came with a weenie hard copy manual...I do keep it in the camera bag but never use it. It is small format and like 25 pages. The one included in pdf on the DVD is like 300+ pages. I ended up printing most of it out and put it in a 3-ring binder.

I seem to recall that if you download the pdf from the Nikon WEB site it isn't printable. I don't get why they think that's a good idea...like someone is going to print out one their manuals to use on a competitors camera or something?

I prefer David Bush's book.

The Nikon WEB site also has an App for manuals. I have the D5100 on my itouch. You can use it on iPhone or iPad too if you have one.

I also sent the pdf to my kindle but it's kind of hard to read.

I don't know why I bother sending PDF's to my Kindle....they're a pain to deal with !! It would be nice to have EVERYTHING I own on the Kindle though !

Let me know how the Fire is ! I bought my Kindle for $189.00, a leather cover with light, $60.00, a week later the Fire came out for $199.00 !!!! I'm still a little ticked off over that one !!!

Cloning works too....could be a little time consuming.....2 pics here....the second one without power lines.....

Just because I worked in the industry for almost 30 years,I'm kind of anal about this subject. Those aren't POWER LINES,those are telephone cables.
Sorry, just HAD to point that out. :|

Lol !! Whatever cables they are, they ruin EVERY shot I take !!! This being a VERY small town dating from the 1800's, and some areas the 1700's, all the houses are right on the streets.....even the neat old barns !!! Not sure if I'm a fan of progress anymore !!

The problem is less the temperature than it is the humidity. Changing the lens outside in dry air should be no serious problem. Taking the camera back in and changing the lens indoors will be a problem unless you wait until the interior of the camera warms to room temps. As long as the equipment is at the same temp or warmer than the air where you are swapping the lens, there should be no problem.

When you bring a cold camera indoors, it will fog up exposed outer areas. Don't try to wipe the condensation off. Just wait until it evaporates on its own. This may take ten to twenty minutes, but that's the price you pay for moving from one area to another.

I used my Nikon 14-24 yesterday in 7 degree air and that is a BIG piece of glass on the front. When I returned to a 70 degree room, it took a full twenty minutes before I could use it again.

You'll see a simple demonstration if you wear glasses...go from hot to cold, and a lot of times vice-versa...your glasses fog up with condensation !

yes photoshop. I have corel on my desktop but not really liking corel too much and it seemed to be much easier when I attempted calibration for that one, but thinking I still do not have it quite right!

I've tried calibrating through every photo program I have....they just don't work ! Saving my pennies fot the big buck ones mentioned above !

OH BOY!!! Talk about frustration at its finest!

I have been trying to calibrate my monitor with my editing software and I am just not getting it done! Not really sure what I am doing wrong. Not sure if I understand the process at all as far as that goes!
If anyone would be so gracious as to chime in with some ideas or advice I would be forever grateful! Is it necessary to purchase calibration tools?

What editing software ? You mean like Photo Shop ?

Back to the original question. Cloning tools are available in a number of programs. It can be tedious when you're working with a lot of detail, like the leaves on the trees in the sample shown. Easy when you're dealing with a uniform sky.

Another technique when you're dealing with a fairly uniform area like sky is to draw a selection around the object, feather the selection, move the selection off a little to the side, copy what's there, then paste it and move it back over the wire, flagpole, or whatever other offending item is giving you the problem. The latest version of Photoshop has a neat tool where you just select the troublesome object and tell Photoshop to fill in using the surrounding area. I haven't used the tool myself, but some of the examples they have posted are astounding.

I wonder if that's in Elements ? Sounds like it would save a lot of time !

I am a university grad--reasonably intelligent. My wife is a university grad and a surgical nurse ( she can and has assembled heart/lung machines and done delicate heart surgery on infants.)
The two of us spent several hours today trying to attach a photograph to a forum mail. Gave up in disgust .HELP.
AnywayI found out that my picasa was out of date. We upgraded to 3.9. once again tried to attach a photo of two cheetahs taken through a fence--to no avail. Just think of all the FANTASTIC PIX the world is missing. 8-) ALYN

Alyn as has been stated here before, when you have typed your message in the UHH box go just below to BROWSE. Browse to your photo on the 'desktop' (where you EXPORTED your picture from Picasa to)double click and click open. Then back at the message box you will see something like C:\ in the little box just to the left of Browse. Then click SEND. If you go back to preview your message it will DROP the photo so don't click preview just SEND.

Got it! Thank you, NYWEB, I owe you one.
I've read complaints about Silky but these apparently come from folks who have more elaborate programs.
For now I'll be satisfied to have something just to get my feet wet. To the nyweb2001 family I wish a very Merry Christmas and I hope next year will be the best you've ever had.

I don't have one yet. UHH has so many choices I don't know which one to choose.
I'm an oldie with film but in my diapers on digital. Still studying the assets of a bridge camera I bought last month so that tells you I don't really know gee from haw for now.
Some program for a dummy would do, but maybe cloning is beyond my reach for now. What do you think?

I wouldn't worry about trying to get a nice editing program and going through a steep learning curve. I had my camera for a year and took about 8000 shots....THEN I got an editing program ! The best way to learn a little about editing is to use the programs that are supplied by the camera manufacturers when you buy a camera.... surprisingly they are very good, simple, and easy to learn !!

I'm sure. Everyone I know who works there has great benefits, not to mention awesome pay. It is still going strong but thats not to say they may have had to cut back recently in some areas. :-(

Well.....I think we're talking about 2 different companies !!! When I worked there, early 80's, I was one of 60,000 workers at Kodak Park and their stock was about $70.00 per share......now there's less than 2000 people at the Park and the stock is about .80 cents a share !! They're selling off a lot of land they own, a lot of the buildings have either been sold or torn down ! Most of the retirees, like my father, aunts and uncles, have seen their benefits dropped !! Not good for Kodak's home town I'm afraid !
