Really nice shot, the kind you find yourself quietly viewing and have no reason to move on to another. Thanks for finding and sharing.

That and an early Polaroid were the only cameras my late dad ever owned. On second thought, there may have been an Instamatic or two that slipped in there. View finders for portrait or landscape, neither of which were very clear. 116 or 120 film on a spoil?

All - Thanks for the replies. All should be very helpful. Tripods\ and monopod are ready and, thanks to nimbushopper, I changed my rental to his company. Hopefully, good to go.

I've rented a Tamron 150-600 for a few days of shooting in Rocky Mtn National Park. I'll be mounting it on a Canon 6d. My concern is that for the 3 days I have it that 2 will be wasted as I get used to it? If any of you have some helpful lessons learned on how to best take advantage of this beast, I'd really appreciate your suggestions . Thanks. Oh, I think I've got the one down fairly well that deals with pointing it toward the subject. :-)

Very good! I saw RO at a NW Iowa amusement park ballroom in 1964. Didn't say much between songs behind those horned rim glasses, but could he ever sing! Much thanks for sharing this.

How about a Nikon P900 or Canon SX60 HS? Both are very goof cameras, decent image quality, and the zoom he can handle.

There's a $100 difference in price; but my budget is strictly limited to $500 or less.

The comparison uses MSRP. The G1 X refurbished from the Canon web site is below your $500 budget by $170. Look again. I see you mentioned that you don't want to consider refurbished. You should reconsider. Many from UHH, including myself, regularly buy refurbished and have never had an issue.

I've reviewed many fine models and narrowed the list to these:
Canon G16 and Fugi X30.
Comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

I have the G16 and have been more than satisfied. You might also consider the G1 X, which can be found on Canon's refurb site for $330.
Here's a comparison:

If I can be of help in any way its not a problem I can assure you. Im a retired ol' guy so time is not an issue.
PM me any time at all, Remember we are on different time zones but Ill answer as soon as I can. I am 8 hours ahead of London UK time.

Here's a redo of the 3rd image. As suggested I cut back on the photomatix sliders about 15%. Then edited out the color in PSE, where I think the halos were introduced? I'm wondering now if still need more contrast?

Nice subject for HDR. You have got some really big halos in the sky over the trees and tractor on third shot.
its caused by over processing so you can cure it in two ways Number one cut back on the sliders in Photomatix or process as you like it then stack the HDR image on top of the original image and brush the sky through from the unprocessed photo. Merge and convert to black and white.
Also could do with a bit more contrast I think.

Thanks, Billyspad. I'd like to give your suggestion a try. If you wouldn't mind a private message or two as I proceed, I'd truly appreciate it.

"Where'd that come from? It new?"
"What! This? It's been around for months!"
"I don't remember you mentioning it."
"What! You must be kidding! I SHOWED it to you! Told you about it! You never listen......"
"Huh? Well..... Okay.... Be back in a little while, gotta mow the lawn."
End of conversation.
