I just bought 2 new lenses and I managed to get them into the house & hidden while my husband was visiting his sister. I put the 24-70/2.8 on my camera right away. It is a "little" bigger than the 18-140 I had on the camera but I don't think he'll actually notice. BUT, how will I explain that big 70-200/2.8 when I pull it out & put it on the camera? He WILL notice that! Birthday present? Right now, I'm trying to talk him into a trip to Ireland! Then I can justify the lenses!!?!!!?
Get a fake handle and tell him it's a new travel mug.

Doesn't sound like the kind of relationship I have in my marriage. First you something behind his back because you think he might not like it, then you want to schmooze him into taking you to Ireland.
Sorry, I can't give you any advice on this one except you should rethink your relationship and the trust you put in each other.
So... you want to spend a few thousand on a trip to Ireland to justify the few thousand you spent on glass?
Wow, yes, you really do have a problem.
Now, please don't tell me you will be flying 1st class to justify the cost of new luggage. Because new luggage would certainly call for a new wardrobe.
Eventually, you will acquire enough lenses that the new additions won't stick out so bad. My 70-200 was put on a shelf for a few weeks, then the reply could be, "what, this old lens? I've had this for a while.

I don't need to hide my toys from my wife any more. I just remind her of the $1400.00 she paid for that P.O.S. Louis Vuitton handbag
I always made sure to have a camera bag bigger than I needed. That way when I made new purchases, I could just cram them in there and no one would notice.
That being said, when I pulled out the Nikon 400mm f/2.8 out of the bag in her presence the first time, it was hard to keep a straight face when I vehemently denied not having it "forever".

If I used my wife's wardrobe and decor expenditures as justification for my photography purchases, Nikon product development would not be able to keep up!

You are complaining about a big thing that you pull out. Your husband should be proud.

"I was just joking!" he says, as he pulls out the sheets and blankets and throws them on the sofa...
