Thank you for all your advice; SO glad not to have to hire/take a huge great bit of glass! Amazed, when you said filter, did you mean polarising, or something like an ND? And Wilpharm, "great photographers" in the sense of enjoying using a camera pro-actively and creatively, not in the sense of winning more competitions that anyone else!

Hey, sounds like a great idea - especially with a 500mm lens!

Hi
My husband and I live in East Sussex. We have a spare room and would be really happy to put you up, feed you whenever you were around and put you on a train to get to London for the Games from either Uckfield (1-1/2 hours to London) or Haywards Heath (1 hour). We are near the Ashdown Forest, and have many lovely National Trust homes nearby for the days you are not up in London. I am the photographer in our household, but have an accommodating husband! You would be very welcome to stay with us. Being a new member, I am not sure whether I can put my personal e-mail details on the site, or how we go about contacting each other personally should you be interested. But we would love to offer you our home as a base. Sarah

Have any of you great photographers been to the Galapagos Islands? I have a "0" birthday this year (before you ask: 70) and we are taking probably our last major holiday there in October (due to age and fixed pensions!) Question is: what lens(es) would or did you take? Since I hear that the wildlife is not afraid, presumably you can get quite close? I have a wide-angle (16-35), a medium (24-105) and a long (100-400). Would you recommend hiring a 500mm lens or is that uneccessary if you can walk right up to the wildlife? Would really appreciate any advice/tips/pointers from the Hedgehogs' collective experience.....we will certainly never have a second chance!

Sounds like fun, but please can you add a date. People like me get muddled, and it would be helpful to know which Friday, or Thursday it is, especially if you have been away and maybe missed a few days.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. Australia, the USA, the UK - we're all part of a big photographic family!

There was a photo of a baby hedgehog that had been rescued here last week, and it really was quite cool, Zerbphlatz. But I agree, not really a lot to get enthusiastic about with a hedgehog. Maybe we need a little competition to see who can find, and then take, a photo to show their "beauty"?

Hi

I'm another UK photographer, glad to join this site. Why is it called Ugly Hedgehog? I've been reading some of the forums, it seems everybody is very helpful, kind and polite! (I joined a car forum once where it seemed most of the guys were pretty foul-mouthed). Photographers are good people..... :)

Look forward to being with you all.
