It's one heck of an audacious achievement, Rossetta is working as planned so even if philae isn't perfect the vast amount of planned science will still happen.
Congrats ESA!

Thanks for the comment, Bassman. Hope you play a few for Glenn on Dec. 15th. By the way, does "Bassman" mean you play a bass? Glenn's young bass player in the civilian band was the irrepressible Trigger Alpert, who appeared in the first Glenn Miller film, "Sun Valley Serenade." But he was drafted before the second film, "Orchestra Wives," and I think his letters alerted Glenn to the fact that he and other draftee young musicians were not being used to their full potential in the military, which may have inspired him to join up. Jackie Gleason played the role of the bass player in "Orchestra Wives."

Yes and no, lol! I played "professionally" in the mid 70's. I made enough money to pay the rent and go to junior college, but I also worked in a restaurant so I could eat! Lol. I also like to fish, so the screen name has worked on other forums and I'm not clever enough to come up with a new one for photography. LOL.
:-D :-D
I do still play bass, but just "jamming" with old friends. :-D
Per your suggestion "In the mood" will echo around my neighborhood on 12/15.

Interesting info you have on Glen, his bass player and one of my favorite comedians, Jackie Gleason.

Beautifull picture. The colors are great, but the perspective really makes this shot!

Incidentally, Glenn Miller's live and studio recordings are still on the market, some as early as the late 1920s and early 1930s. I think I've got pretty near all of them, including the German propaganda broadcasts, the film cuts, and the Army Air Force bands in the USA and England.[/quote]

Yes, I have a greatest hits cd, lot's of great music.

Ev +/- are there to let you over ride your cameras light meter, such as when your subject is much lighter or darker than the overall picture. It's used in the auto and priority modes (shutter priority, aperture priority, auto or program).
There is a LOT to learn about this so don't get discouraged, the exposure triangle is your friend! "Understanding exposure" by Bryan Peterson is an oft recommended book on this site to start you in the right direction.
Good luck and keep shooting!

Great shot and I like how you captured that seagull, legs crossed (just off the owls right shoulder) making fun of him! Lol.

How do you describe...
Beginner photographer
Intermediate photographer
Advanced photographer

I would be very surprised if there is a concrete answer for this question, but I am interested in hearing everyone's opinions on this topic.

I agree it will be tough to pigeon hole but I'll take a shot at it.
Beginner, uses any camera they find, just snaps away at things they like the looks of.
Intermediate, has learned the exposure triangle, try's to work the light, has some basic composition skills.
Expert, all the above, knows exactly the tools for each portion of the process, has enough experience to see the curve balls coming, before during and after shutter press all the way to the print they were anticipating.

Hmmmmm, at 8 sec exposure I'm assuming this was shot w/tripod, so was the image taken through a window, was it raining?
Just a guess.

And it's better than a whole lot of pics I take over many days. I like the juxtaposition of the small (to us) leaves vs the sun. Good job on the sun star.

Oops, didn't see the second pic, my comment is on the first. Nice composition with pumpkins and the fence in #2.
