Here's a couple from a recent trip to Alaska and an old picture from an abandoned house on Meadow Island in NY (Long Island.)
I don't know how people are getting more than 3 pictures in a post but I have a nice close-up of the abandoned house in the next post.

I ran this through my Digital Image Pro first, tweaked up the shadows, toned down the contrast a tad, and increased saturation a bit. Then I ran it through ReDynamix in PS 7.

I found this doll in a village in Alaska that was abandoned in 1964 after the earthquake and tsunami, it is next to an old Jeep

Wouldn't you love to see a time-lapse of this over the years?

rember it is not so much the camera body it is the quality of the photographer and the quality of the lens that will make the difference.

This sentence is some of the best advice you will get. sinatraman gifted me with the same advice when I first was looking around for what camera to hook up with.

Welcome to the family.

I have no data to prove it but I think this site leads the net for retirees ( myself included) as members looking to start or get back into photography.

We also have a great group of folks that have a lot of years behind the lens to help us out.

Of course! Who else but retirees would have the time during the day to read & reply to the forums?

Ah, that amount of time is more demanding.

I guess one needs to match the power to the amount of storage card space you plan to bring.

The 5100 is a pretty new model but it's the same battery and charger for the 3100.

Thanks for the info about car charger possibilities, I can use that while traveling. But, maybe I should have been more specific. I plan to be in the back-country for 6 to 9 weeks using llama pack animal(s). We will have to drop down for resupply intermittently; but, we are not planning to stay "down" nor necessarily at places that will provide "battery re-charging" capabilities. I would appreciate additional comments. Thanks for your time and effort.

You can plug it into the camel's...
Seriously, either get several batteries or buy a solar charger.
Just did a quick search for solar chargers. Look here...

My 2 cents.

Couldn't find the seller by name but I bought one from another vendor. Under $10 w/shipping.
Thanks.

A couple of shots from Central Texas. Summer's Mill is between the towns of Belton and Holland. The bluebonnets (called lupines in other states) are in the Texas Hill Country near Burnet. The sunset is viewed from my back yard on Lake Belton.

Love all 3. Not crazy about the angle of #2, but #3 is SPECTACULAR.

I am going into the back country for a few weeks and will need to recharge Nikon D5100/AAA/AA type batteries. The D5100 currently requires an AC source. Nikon does not even make a car charger system for the D5100. Where I am going, a solar recharging system seems to be the solution. Needles to say, the less the system weights -- the better. Does anyone have experience with a specific manufacture's make and model equipment?

Buy a Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL14 spare and charge it before leaving. I get over 250 shots from the battery in my D7000. I carried two spares on my trip this Summer to 5 national parks. I only needed two batteries for 900 photos. I shoot in RAW.

I agree. In fact I already have a spare which I keep charged. If your traveling with your car, you can get an inverter and plug in.

OK, I admit it...I have not read the article in this link but I save the information everyday because it's really helpful.
This is a from a newsletter I get, Kim Kommando.
Here's the link for "Managing Multiple Monitors."
Hope it helps.

OK, I have my Nikon D5100 when I'm out looking for pix, but I have 2 Canon SD 1400 Is cameras. One is always in my pocket, and the other is always in my car.
Start with a P&S camera & carry it with you. My P&S's are really small so they're not bothersome.
