For a "walk-around" with my D300 I use Nikon's 18-200, wiht my D3 I use the 28-300. If I have a specific purpose, then I'll use the best that I have to fit the purpose

WHAT EQUIPMENT??
All thru this discussion, the word "equipment" is used; A rather broad isn't it? PnS are usually not the target of the "camera aware" cut strap and grab-n-run thief - they have a love of expensive equipment; they love the give away shape of a DSLR.

So, when the people above, in this forum, refer to "equipment" what are we talking about? I assume DSLR and supporting equipment. OK What is the "MY EQUIPMENT" referred to? How many lenses, tripods etc. ???? What do you brave people take?
WHAT EQUIPMENT?? br All thru this discussion, the ... (show quote)

When not used for business anything, everything called :"equipment" is Personal Property under the Homeowenrs policy

Another perspective - use ISO to increase shutter speed. I shoot dragon flies, aperture priority, wide open @5.6, ISO at 1000 or 1200. I use the Nikon D3 with its 70-300

Having retiered as an insurance agent of 46 years, two things:
1. Some companys may insure personal property "...anywhere in the world..." others may not I insure with Travelers and it does.
2. No homeowner policy insures "Business Property away from the premises..." If you sell one image for $0.10 you are in buisness - Discuss this thoroughly with your agent. And yes, Google - coverage is available

I completely agree - I make the analogy to woodworking- some thinss are best left without finish, some just a coat of clear prerservative, some the paint to enhance and finish the projectr - to me this is the use and value oif PP
A finish can disguize and glamourize poor quality as can PP

I have both a Niokon 2x and a Kenko 2x - the Nikon does better on the Nikon lenses Nikon says it will work with. The Kenko works nicely with the Nikon lenses that Nikon says can't use a teleconverter with - 80-400, 28-300; auto-focus is slower. I used the D300 (DX, 1.5 crop factor), the 80-400 and the Kenko 2x to get the Osprey that's on another thread - the nest was about 360 feet from my lense

Both the Osprey and the Heron/Egret were at a national wildlife refuge. I had been watching the Osprey and on that morning just set my camera up, sat down with a remote cord and snapped For the Heron/Egret, I was walking the trail along the lake far enough away that I was no threat - got several shots leading up to its catch
