you can focus on the near point and then by turning the lens barrel move the focus back and repeat then stack. Or you can focus on the near point and move the entire camera on a rail closer to the subject. Will the result be the same or will the rail introduce a change in perspective? Will stacking software handle each stack the same?

It is a strange ability to capture so much and still be able to get 1:1 at such a close lens to subject distance. A crop is a must in most cases.

A traveling salesman of farm products pulls up a drive and sees a farmer walking from his barn. He parks and approaches the farmer and starts off with friendly small talk. He stops talking in mid sentence when he sees a huge 3 legged hog walk out of the barn. The farmer turns to see what the salesman saw and said "That hog saved my life. I took the hill over there at the wrong angle on my tractor and it fell over and pinned me under it. That hog ran to the house and caused such a ruckus that my son came out to see what was going on and the hog led him to me and help was called". The salesman was wide eyed as the Farmer said "He also saved my whole family when the shed that was close to the house cought fire at night and it started to set the south wall of the house on fire while we were all asleep. That Hog burst through the screen door and up the stairs squealing up a storm and got us up and out and we put the fire out and saved the house". The salesman asked "is that how the hog lost his leg?" The farmer replied" Oh no, you can't eat a special hog like that all at once"

Thanks for the tip. I have tried using a monopod but have found it only a little helpful It actually makes it more difficult so I have abandoned using it. a stout stick would be more flexible.
thanks.

I have a 105mm Lester Dine aka Kiron and I have no problem with it. I don't mind manual focus and aperture ring, but auto focus might he handy if focus lock on a D750 would help when I handhold. I sway in a bit when I am looking through the viewfinder. I tend to fire as I sway into focus. With a lot of passes. I have a chance to pick a 2.8D up. The Kiron is an excellent piece of glass but I don't know how the 2.8D would stack up. I don't know if focus lock would even work fast enough with that screwdriver focus system to even be of value. We are talking minute adjustments in milliseconds.

You have asked two questions. I know nothing about the lens in questions but to your first question about fixed aperture lenses. I would test the new camera to see how high your ISO can be set before you find the grain unacceptable. Long telephotos and wildlife require higher shutter speeds so you camera will need to rely on higher ISO performance if you have a fixed f11 lens of any manufacture. Some cameras can produce acceptable images at crazy high ISO. Your sensor performance will tell you what your options are.

It would help if you told us where in the world you are. There is a huge flight of city dwellers and from states in particular. People who can work anywhere there is good internet have taken to the hinterlands. thus impacting prices with cash from elsewhere.

I would like to introduce my photo club to the techniques employed to turn an image into something that no longer look like a photo. Not a step by step but possibly a demo of the process or showing digital manipulated images from their catalog and speaking about their vision and what was done to achieve the image. maybe a before and after. My goal is to expose the members to an aspect of our hobby that may interest them in exploring themselves not an instructional demo per se. I do not know how it is done other than presets in some software. drop me a line. jboconnell@gmail.com

Don't Enterprise drives require a RAID system of some kind to drive them? I was under the impression you could not drop them into a PC or even an external Toaster.

Good luck sorting through all the advice you have received. Asking for advice on tripods is like asking for advice on which vehicle to buy. If you know how heavy your present gear plus future wish gear is and what kind of photography interests you, studio, landscape or nature macro closeup. You can select any special features you may want. You already know you want a more substantial head. Start there and choose a support system that has a higher load rating then you will need and any special features you will need.

I had a similar problem with my Levano laptop. It went to sleep when it was closed and would not wake up. small light indicated it was asleep. hit the reset hole with a paper clip and removed the battery for the system to reset and power up cold. I could not easily pull the coin system battery. I had to send it out for a Motherboard replacement.

You should give a hard look at Affinity for $50 which has most of the power of PP and Lightroom but no catalog. Lots of training and little money.

The repair was free, cost me shipping two ways to a authorized dealer in NC. According to Lenovo it was out of warranty when I bought it. I sent it to the dealer with the receipts showing less than 6 months old and he got it covered.
