Get the ISS app on you Android or iPhone. It can tell you weeks in advance when it will be over your areas. Place amazing photos from it down to the earth.

Does anyone use from a portability perspective a raspberry pi and Linux based photo editing software? Any recommendations for Linux based photo editing software?

WF2B, I had a Ti1, time was finally there to upgrade. I went with M50 and have really enjoyed it. I love how light it is. That is personal preference. I went thru B&H and they cut me a huge deal on the converter! So all my previous lens work well. Being so small has enabled me to convert from a back pack to large fanny pack that can hold, the camera, plus 4 lens.

For those using windows, I might suggest you look into robocopy which is now free in windows 10 and maybe in windows 7. It give you the ability to keep two drives / folders synced. You can create a small bat file that you just click on... Check it out lots of parms to help you do more.

I work in the IT world on the infrastructure side of things, 10 years is under perfect conditions, in a data center with perfect heating and cooling and clean consistent power. There are also different grades of drives. Average Joe at home does not get the industrial drive. Fans fail on PC's and laptops, heat is a killer of either hdd or SSD. For all these reasons I would say 3 to 5 years to be safe and always have copy. You can also look at NAS storage for a backup that has multiple drives in it with RAID technology that way if a single drive fails it can be replaced and the system will rebuild you data with out loss of data. If your pictures are as special to you as mine are to me, then do what I do. I have two copies, one on external nas with 4 drives init running RAID 5 and then a copy in the cloud. Data loss can be heart wrenching!

One more thing to consider. When a SSD drive fails, most likely all data will be lost. With standard hard drives there is always a chance to send it off to recover your data.

So you can go with SSD drives for internal and external, but have a back up! 😁😁

Being relatively new to this forum I found this response the most useful. Especially including the links! As to the others, this forum is part of my research. Along with other websites and reviews. I might also suggest to others, that some of these responses turn people off. If someone makes a bad or non-helpful response let the person who is asking for information figure out that it is a bad response. Most people like myself are looking for information. It is up to us to decide what we read, how to interpret it and if it provides any value.

In a nutshell, everyone is entitled to their opinion, it does not mean I have to agree.

Thank you to all!

Does anyone out there have one of those Arsenal attachments for you DSLR?

Are they worth it for time lapse photos?

Welcome! A lot of great suggestions above. Especially the renting one.

I really recommend at least trying them on a store or renting even if you end up buying it some place else. Since and and all of the major players leap frog one and other, get the one that fits well in your hands, that has the controls where you like them. I went from one type of Canon (beginner camera point and shot) to a DSLR and the interfaced changed and it was a new learning process. The size difference alone made me feel very differently. It's not something you can't get past but it can be frustrating. Also you did not say which Canon you had now, but if you already have a DSLR the cost to replace your glass if you switch from one platform to the other can be very expensive.

Good luck!

I will tell you that others are correct, don't go cheap buy the higher end drive. But also consider a Nas unit that can house two or 4 drives. With that type of system there are multiple options of replacing a failed drive and not lose your data. Plus over time if you exceed the capacity you can replace one drive at a time to a higher density and obtain more capacity as needed. You can also purchase higher density drives to put in your PC and then go with online backups in the cloud, such as Google, OneDrive, Carbonite, or the new one someone suggested the other day called backblaze.

Hello everyone, to guard against hard drive loss, I have been using Carbonite. I love that it works in the background, (lately when it's working) I love the fact I can the view my photos on my smart phone and then text msg one or more. However, as I said it has not been working the best and the price keeps going up. Any opinions on other options that provide the same capability and more?
