I would like some feedback on this image please. It was part of a gallery of 20 images presented to a client. She did not like 12 out of the 20 including this one. She commented that they are look dark and too edited. I asked if she meant the skin tones were too dark or the surroundings and she said both. I would like to be open minded about how I could improve. Mid day sun, natural light, 5-in-1 Silver side towards them at my feet to add a little light to their faces. F5.6, 1/320, ISO 200, 82 mm, hand held.

As far as I can see the colors look crisp, the focus looks sharp, the composition looks balanced...
...the only issue I can find is Dad's facial expression. He kind of looks angry. At the very least skeptical to simply unhappy.
Very peaceful.
Out of curiosity, if my eyes are right, when I zoom in on the downloaded image it looks like maybe there is a bracketed image that is not quite lined up with the original or like the entire image has a subtle ghost image just offset. Any idea what is causing this? If my description was clear enough to communicate my intent.
Very nice shots.
Good luck with the procedure.
I really appreciate the input here. Thank you so much for all of the insight. I will keep my red and orange "glasses" set just as they are.
Funny thing is, just prior to this opportunity appearing I was in a mad dash to switch from my 24-105 to my 120-300 to get a shot of a heron that had landed on the shore just a few yards away from me. As things would have it, 2 teenagers walking down the beach managed to spook him just as I was finding my settings (focus, aperture, etc).
Curses!
...then I look to my right and what do I see?
...again, much appreciation for the honest assessments.

Very nice set, Ron - busy working hummingbirds.
What was the distance from the birds, what size focal length did you use and how many megapixel sensor do you have?
I don't think you used a flash light?
Thank you for sharing!
Tagging as I am also interested in what your settings were and don’t want to miss the answer.
Absolutely fantastic shots btw.
Thanks guys,
...trust my own eyes right?
Was taking pictures to play with bracketing but this came all by it's lonesome. Only cropped to flatten it out. The tripod was set in sand...
...too much red??? Orange???

Prime lens vs. a slower zoom lens. If you are still confused, look up the definition of “prime lens” and “faster lens” and compare those two with the definitions of “zoom lens” and “slower lens”.
You sure he put a prime lens up there? They both look like zoom lenses.
New gear. Time to experiment!
Nothing dynamic. Just some depth of field playing.
FYI Sigma 24-105 F4 mounted on a Nikon D850
I gotta say, I really like the clarity coming through this set up.
Thanks for the compliments/tips guys!!! I need all I can get. Especially the tips.
As far as positioning, I could not agree with what Jules said more.
In general I try to spend some time in each goal for both offense and defense. Just a few yards before the goal to the back corner when I’m following offense. Top of the box to even with the goal when I’m following defense.
Head on a swivel.
You spend some time midfield too but each game’s different and you get a feel for the flow.
Short, perhaps.
Timed, well.
