While certainly not a technically great photo, I thought this one I found from last summer on my cell phone interesting enough to post.

Hi

I've just been lurking and depressed about my photo efforts. Up until now, I've been using film SLR cameras.
I used to love them (I have several nice ones).
The depressing thing is how expensive and unavailable good film and processing cost. Being retired limited how much I wanted to spend on all of that. On my last road trip through the Canadian Rockies in 2019 I easily spent $300 on film and developing. And I was not at all satisfied with the final results.

Long story short, I switched to the dark side and ordered my first "real" (not a cell phone) digital camera.
After borrowing my son's Sony A6000, which was very nice, I decided instead to get a decent bridge camera. I really did not want to bother buying, carrying switching lenses while I moved into the digital world.
I am "patiently" waiting the arrival of my spanking new Canon SX 70. I love the long lens potential.
Owning, and dealing with a digital camera etc will be a learning curve, but I miss photography too much not to make the switch. And I still have all my film gear when I want to play with that sometimes too.

Hopefully I will get some good stuff fit to post soon. Glad there is a dedicated Bridge Camera forum.

I don't see many loose ducks to tape around here, some chicken tape might be good though, I've had to chase them from my garden...
As far as moth balls...I suppose the weight to wing ratio for moth flight would preclude anything above a certain size. Unless its only the lady moths that fly? (now someone will tell me I am sexist I suppose).
Probably gonna need a new lens to capture that huh?

Yes Easter Shore = Eastern Shore MD
Maybe I'll fix that.
No, no Easter eggs involved, but plenty of chickens around....

Ok, so yesterday my wife and I took a walk down the boardwalk in Ocean City Maryland and I took along one of my SLR's. The day started out overcast and foogy, but the sun came out beautifully later. Remember that..its important!
I decided to take a few photos and raised my camera. To my horror...nothing. I could barely see through the view finder and none of the electronic senor indicators were showing (usually green led).
I almost panicked, turning the camera on and off and trying to see what I had wrong..still nothing.
It was then I noticed that if I depressed the shutter button, the camera did cycle and took a picture.
Now I was really stumped.
Then it hit me. I had to sit and laugh. The sun had come out!
I simply had on my "wrong" eyeglasses.
The ones I was wearing were "the auto-darkening type" and the sun had darkened them to the point that I could not see the LEDS and barely through the view finder.
Off came the glasses and poof went the problem.

It made for a good laugh anyway.
A case of Oldtimers disease.

Hi

I have been trying Cannabidiol (CBD) oil.
Yes non-intoxicating marijuana extract.
It is legal in Maryland and sold over the counter in pharmacies. I discussed it with my doctor who agreed I should give it a try, he saw no down side even with my ( type 2) diabetes.
I've been using it for over a month and it has almost eliminated my toe numbness and the night foot burning andhas helped with my sciatica . I sleep much better too.
There is much info about it on legitimate websites but most warn that it has not been fully clinically tested.
I intend to keep using it. It has helped.
My wife is using it too. She just had a 3 vertebrae spinal fusion and it has helped her as well.

Of course, you need to do your own research and discuss it with your doctor, and if it is legal where you live.
It does NOT give you any kind of high!

Good luck

Hamilton needs to die...just another attempt at liberal history revisionism.
I wouldn't waste my time seeing that junk.

Welcome. I like your photos!
I too use older film SLR's (several) and love shooting film.
Keep going, and you and your photos will improve.

Thanks for all the good ideas. For some reason I never thought about using my iPhone for notes or recording. Makes sense. Now I just have to muster the discipline to do it.
My laptop quit on me yesterday too. Now I am reduced to either my phone or a little kindle fire until I decide to replace it and with what. At least I had my photos backed up so I didn't lose anything irreplaceable.
My wife likes her IPad but I am not sure that is what I need. I prefer Windows and keyboard.

I've been trying to relearn much of what I knew as I ease back into photography. Challenging for me is keeping track of what I have done with camera and film, roll to roll and photo to photo. Figuring out what worked well and what didn't.
Is there a common or simple system for keeping that info? Lord knows I can't keep it in my head. (This harkens to another discussion on memory in a different topic).
Do you keep notebook or an i missing some inherent function in film or camera. I predominantly shoot film but would think the question is common to either film or digital.
Suggestions welcome.

If someone wants the 800si let me know. I want to sell it cheap. Perhaps the $50 the OP spent to fix the 400

Wish I had asked first now, I'd bought yours instead of risking Ebay.
I'll keep it mind in case either of the others don't work out, the repair or purchase.
