You might want to buy a book for the 5600 describing features and buttons. The manual is not adequate. I have a 5300 and bought a book by Jon Sparks. At least I now know where the buttons are and what they are used for. The camera is not very intuitive with multi-function buttons.
I suggest a new computer with at least 16 gb of ram, better 32 gb. Upgrading is a second-best option
One thing to consider is to make a "clone "backup so that in the event of a computer virus or crash, you can restore the hard disk. I use Acronis True Image. I believe it is a free download if you have a Wesern Digital Hard Drive'
Duct tape is good but buying from china isn't bad. If you do china, use Paypal for funds. Good backstop for problems. Shipping is slow 2-3 months unless you pay premium prices for shipping. Most of the photo accessories I get, I buy from china.
My solution is rather simple, rather than my signature which is rather poor, I use "freestyle script" to generate a "signature". There are several written scripts available in true type format that can be downloaded for free.
Try Studio 2. Missing some of the PS features but still can do a lot and fun to use. Free trial download available from "Topazlabs.com"
I agree the pink jeep ride is worth the expense. Also, a trip to Jerome might be worthwhile.
Have 2 Nikon cameras. I find using the cable is a better idea as I am concerned that sliding cards in and out may damage the camera contacts.
Check out your library or used book source. There are many excellent books available. Even a book covering an older version may have useful information. I am self-taught and I have a library of books to tide me over unusual situations.
It's been a while but we did a safari to the national parks in Kenya. Even though it was 20 years ago, the memory is still alive and well.
The Tallac state park on the west side of the lake near South Lake Tahoe has old homes that are fun to visit. They have a Great Gatsby festival which is fun. Also, check out the entertainment at the Boat House at Tallac. We liked the walk from the ranger station to the Tallac buildings. There is a visitor center in South Lake Tahoe that is worth visiting to find out what is going on in the area.
I use 8.5 x 11 inch paper and do minor cropping to fit.

I am 84 and also like the birds. My solution is to set up a bird feeder outside my kitchen window, put a Nikon d300 with a 200mm lens on a tripod and photograph the action. I haven't tried it yet but I am going to put in a birdbath and see what action I can ge.
