My Amex card doubles the warranty on items purchased with it up to 2 years. I have used it to repair my Nikon D70 when it had the blinking green light of death, many years ago. Also, check your home owner's policy. I carry a rider on mine for all of my camera equipment.

I just now noticed these filters. Does anyone have an opinion on them? I see a couple of brands available like Vivitar and Zomei. Any thoughts on brands? Also I see various upper limit densities from ND40 to ND1000. What does that mean anyway? I can understand ND10 as 10 stops but 1000 stops!?!? I hope someone can explain this to me. Thanks!

I had to wait to get home from work to get the exact version of Photoshop. It is CS6 or More specifically: Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0.1 (13.0.1.3 20131024.r.34 2013/10/24:21:00:00) x64. I am barely of amateur quality and seldom need to use Photoshop but now that I have a better digital camera I wanted to experiment more. Buying another product is not very appealing to me. I did try the DNG but it did not seem to work. Either that or there is something in the process I did not do. thanks for all of the responses.

Hi repleo, Thanks for the suggestion. I do have a couple of D70s, one I converted to IR. That is fun and a couple of years ago I upgraded to a D7100. Very capable camera, if only the operator could get an upgrade!

Thanks ebbote, I am trying to learn how to use my D7100. So much camera for a simple minded shooter.

I used to be able to edit my raw photo files in my Windows version of Photoshop from my D70 and I remember having to install a plug-in. I now have a D7100 and I cannot view or edit the raw files. I tried to find a newer plug-in online but what I found was some generic file that included all kinds of cameras and was not specific to Nikon and it did not work. The further I looked it seems like now I have to pay for a plug-in. Is that the way it is now? Can anyone guide me on what to try? On a side question, are the raw files different from camera version to camera version?

Greetings to everyone. I have really enjoyed my lurkings among the postings for the past couple of months. Lots and lots of good advice, options and links. I hope someday to be able to contribute. I am in my sixties (boy it seems weird to say that) and have had a Nikon SLR since I graduated college. I have accumulated a lot of equipment in 35mm, medium format and even had a large format camera for a while. But I am the perfect example of "equipment does not make a photographer." I still can't take a decent photo worth showing anyone. But I keep trying. I mostly like nature and macro photography but I do have studio lights and such in the closet. I have a darkroom and when I retire hope to work more in it. Thanks for letting me participate.
