Well this may be more than you want to know:
1. What is the condidion of the negatives Smooth, flat, mounted slides? Or do they have bends and creases
2. Evaluate the surface of each negative. Any Water Markings
3. What size are they
4. you are using a flatbed scanner do you have an optically clear glass plate to lay over the negative to flatten them out. If you don't have one, go to a good glass shop and tell then you want an 8 x 10 or what ever size you will scan piece of optically clear perfect glass. Should cost about 30-40 dollars.
5. Go to www.aztek.com/consumables.html Read their instructions and Obtain some Kami scanning fluid and Kami Cleaning Fluid.
6, You are going to build up a little dam on your flat bed scanner, pour a little scaning fluid into the dammed area and them imerse the negative into the liquid making sure to remobe all bubbles, place the clear glass over the liquid and close the lid and scan for the highest resolution you scanner will produce. Use good software, then take the scanned image and examine it at 300 DPI or greater in Photoshop or other good software, fix any scratches and bubbles you find, Then save the scanned image as a TIFF or PSD file.
7 Use the Kami cleaning solution to carefully clean the scanner, and the negative, using the Kami whipes to clean the film. Permit the negative to dry. If there is a problem, repeat.
8. The purpose of all of this is to fill the very fine dust scratches and other marks that will be in the negative. Follow this process for near Drum Scan results. Works for color or black and white. Good luck and feel free to contact me with questions or problems.

Any of them can become ink sucking cloging monsters if you use after market inks. Epson is a great printer if you use Epson inks. After market inks do not contain an anti clog agent that Epson puts in the inks. Use cheap inks in any printer and it will eventually clog.

It depends on the laptop. If your laptop has a true 8 bit color card, then just use a 8 bit monitor. But some monitor color cards will support a 16 bit color monitor and have the capability to correct the color with a color spectrometer. These are usually high end monitors, like gaming laptops.

I really doubt if most Hoggers here could tell the difference in a finished Magazine sized page. When it was film, for a lot of magazines, requiring medium format just kept the non-professional from clogging their submission process.

That is not the entire story. Please go to this link to see that the entire camera industry is struggling: https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=F24xXf-cGMS_tQbCjrKwCw&q=How+are+major+camera+companies+doing+financially&oq=How+are+major+camera+companies+doing+financially&gs_l=psy-ab.3...1864.43181..45159...4.0..0.424.11270.0j24j25j3j1......0....1..gws-wiz.....0..35i39j0j35i39i70i251j0i22i30j33i22i29i30j33i160j33i21.Qhz8c80KvSo&ved=0ahUKEwi_hPLwt8DjAhXEX80KHUKHDLYQ4dUDCAU&uact=5

I used to go through this in the classes I tought at the University. Take an image that is well exposed, better if it is on a white background and sharpen then print it using 6 or 7 methods, one of which is Nik Sharpener Pro. Print them all on the same printer using semi-gloss paper, 13 x 19. Label the back so you won't mix them up and then display them side by side and ask people which they prefer. I found consistently( like 95% of the time) that NIK sharpener was the prefered picture.

Try playing with it in B&W. You may really like it.

Try adding a strobe set 1 1/2 - 2 stops below your exposure. Will gently fill the shadows.

Nice shot. Some comments to improve it. It appears you show wide open and have a shallow depth of field. Try to make a greater depth of field. Also next time take 2 or 3 extra shots each with a progessively slower shutter to see if you can get a little propeller spin. Maybe use a monopod and if using IS, set it for PAN mode. Just experiment a little. But nice shot.

I suggest that you have the computer tethered by a security cable to you, or someone may rip off your laptop.

The attached photo is a pretty good dog photo. You need an assistant to get the dog positioned and then let go just when you snap. Get below the dog. Use a flash set 1 1/2 - 2 stops under exposed to help fill shadows and to get a Key light in the dog's eye, especially with a dark colored dog. Make sure the backdrop is dramatic. The attached photo was show at a local park and used a cir polarizer. And brush them right before taking the shot.

Keep in mind that there are two kinds of formatting. The most common just deletes the file names in the device, not the entire file. With this kind of formatting you can use a recovery program to pull the files back up. But if you do an indepth reformat, then it completely cleans the device. Make sure which you need and which you use.

Years ago, using film in a 35mm camera, I got distracted talking to someone and opened the camera back with film in the camera, then quickly shut it. Friend of mine said " you think you closed that in time".

Epson 9800. Prints up to 44"on roll paper, or you can manually load large sheets. Like all large printers you should print something every day. Sitting idle for long periods is the worse thing for it. I have had a large Canon and HP. Epson is by far the best. And after years of frustration , I use only Epson inks. This printer and the 4880 do fantastic work
