My understanding is that a smaller aperture blocks out of focus light. Does this mean wider apertures are using out of focus light to brighten the image?

Been working on this idea but not sure how intuitive it really is.

I think you nailed it. Thank you! It appears to be a Winton Six, made in Cleveland, Ohio. One of the first American companies to sell a motor car, founded in 1897.

I was looking in The Old Motor but hadn't yet come across this.

You're welcome.

For out of focus background the ratio between camera and subject and subject to background need to be high. Crop cameras require you to move back further to get the same composition which messes up this ratio. One alternative is to use a long zoom lens to compress the background.

I thought Brenizer method was using wide angle lens at close range for shallow dof and maintaining wide angle of view. And how do you do this with film?

Are the Minolta lenses a-mount. If so, one of the Sony DSLT cameras would use them natively. For the price the A68 is hard to beat with ibis, mfa, evf $600 body.

The Pentax K1 seems to be made for landscapes with the pixel shift feature.

Here's my take on this subject. The average person buying their first DSLR will go Canon because they have name recognition. The average inquisitive person will do some research and find that Nikon has better shadow recover and go that route. I too went with Canon because of the original Digital Rebel and stayed through the T2i. After getting a Sony A57 with EVF I knew that DSLR's were not in my future although I would like to be able to buy a Sony DSLT with Canon EF mount.

If making money is the goal with photography, I think Peter Lik has proven that marketing is the most important aspect.
