Buy a new bag, but keep this on for the beach. On beach days put camera and lens in a baggie for extra protection. This way your new bag will not get sand into it.

I like this idea. Thanks!

So nice! Congrats! Love the bottom pic. Here's ours. A friend gave us cats last week. They're getting big!

I always ask myself...what would Charles Ingles do (Little house on the prairie)? I'd send Half pint out to the barn for a few extra chores..then I'd sit her down...explain how bad sand is for cameras, give her a hug...then head to the mercantile for a new bag.

I'm afraid I wasn't as gracious as Pa. But, I did stop myself after shrieking out her name.

Fortunately, the camera was out of the bag and that allowed you to take some nice shots!

Thanks :)

Ok. That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure if I was just being paranoid. Glad I had my lenses in bags and my camera out when it happened!

Went to the beach for sunset pictures. I took my camera out of the bag and as I was moving to close up the bag, my daughter flung her sandles and got sand all inside it. After vacuuming it out well, would you trust it? Or just get a new one? I'm a little nervous about using it again.

An article in "Picture Correct", the Author: Marianne Stenger, echoes my thoughts about this topic that I have noticed. Newbies seem to be using thinking from film days and are not up on new camera technology. I don't know where they're getting their information but it's usually outdated.

The mistakes are:
1. USING A SHUTTER SPEED THAT’S TOO SLOW
2. CHOOSING THE WRONG FOCUS POINT
3. NOT SHOOTING IN HIGH ISO
4. ALWAYS SHOOTING AT WIDE APERTURES
5. USING IMAGE STABILIZATION WHILE USING A TRIPOD
An article in "Picture Correct", the Aut... (show quote)

Well, guilty. lol I'm just figuring it all out. Though, it was fun, at my son's robotics competition, when I figured out to up the shutter speed to get non-blurry robots. And then at our Passover seder, that was so dimly lit, when I upped the ISO and everything worked a bit better. We learn :) Though I will welcome any tips on how to get it to focus better. So many times it's not grabbing what I want and life moves too fast for manual focusing.

I looked at Best Buy. I don't have a local camera shop to go to, so had to. But, it was nice to just look and be left alone to browse without a salesman talking to me. I went in the evening, so the place was pretty dead, except for the one other young, flirty girl who kept the salesman busy so that I could shop! Although a bit annoying when I did have a question lol I hate being hounded when I just want to look! Anyway, could be a good option to browse there before you get a change to get back up. I looked a few times before making a final decision. You think of things you want to check out and then need to see it in person again!

Great pic! When I was looking last month, I almost bought the Sony A7. A good used one, on B&H or Adorama was just under $1000. I ended up getting a Panasonic G85 instead, just because the Sony lenses that I wanted seemed to be a bit more than the Panasonic. but, that was a really nice option.

I know nothing about editing, but the second picture looks contorted and leaning to me. Like the building is going to fall over. The angle of the first is more comfortable.

Nice! We went there this past summer on our way home from the eclipse. But, it was the wrong time of the month for the moonbow. Great pics!

When I told my husband, he said, "You've probably put that on it today." lol So true!

Thanks! I will! Took my first "manual" pic last night. Still don't have my head completely wrapped around all that, but it's comin'.

UPS just came a couple hours ago. I ended up getting a Panasonic G85 from B&H. It was listed as a 9, but I really can't find anything wrong with it (except the box, but who cares about a beat up box?). Just figured out how to check shutter count and it was at 150! The thing is practically new! Now to read the manual and figure out how to use it. :) So many of you offered advice when I was trying to figure out what to buy. Thank you all so much!

Well, it doesn't matter because as I was hemming and hawing about which bag to get, someone else bought the camera :( I had it partially checked out when it disappeared from my cart. Bummer. It was a Panasonic G85, D quality, for $700. Oh well. I ended up getting a 9 quality (which doesn't look like it's as good, but should still be fine) from B&H for $50 more. It'll be here Monday!!! Thanks everyone. Can't wait to get started.
