New camera bag?

Went to the beach for sunset pictures. I took my camera out of the bag and as I was moving to close up the bag, my daughter flung her sandles and got sand all inside it. After vacuuming it out well, would you trust it? Or just get a new one? I'm a little nervous about using it again.

Get a new one. Sand is impossible to get it all out and you can be assured one will find its way into your camera or lens. Most bags are reasonably priced so why take a chance.

I think I'd use it for something other than delicate gear of any kind. Now you have a good excuse to start shopping for a new bag. : )

That was easy. Totally agree. Like a magnet, a few lose grains in the seams will someday notice your camera. I can hear the theme from "Jaws" in the background. Besides, what's not to like about a new bag?

Clean and vacuum out the bag. Put the daughter up for adoption. :-)

If you are at the beach often you will be buying a lot of bags :) Empty out your bag and shake it out well. You can swing the bag against something hard to loosen the sand first. It should be fine.

Fortunately, the camera was out of the bag and that allowed you to take some nice shots!

Ok. That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure if I was just being paranoid. Glad I had my lenses in bags and my camera out when it happened!

I definitely agree, get a new one. Sand is the worst. Nice shots, by the way! Especially the light house and the silhouette at sunset.

I always ask myself...what would Charles Ingles do (Little house on the prairie)? I'd send Half pint out to the barn for a few extra chores..then I'd sit her down...explain how bad sand is for cameras, give her a hug...then head to the mercantile for a new bag.

Unless you click on Quote Reply before answering we have no idea who you are talking to. Your thread is a great example of that. Some tell you to buy a new bag and others tell you to shake this one out and vacuum. Which answer are you referring to?

My suggestion is to shake it out and then vacuum the bag. Over time you will gain more dirt than a few grains of sand. Most likely you won’t be buying a new bag for each mishap.

I admit, I baby my camera gear. I would bite-the-bullet and get a new one.

Vacuum the bag one more time, then continue using it.
With all that vacuuming, it is likely already cleaner than before you took it on the trip to the beach.

And take the cost out of your daughter's allowance.
