You have researched carefully to try something new (using HSS, with speed lights to achieve a low key background) - watched you tube to death, read all the blogs on the subject, feeling confident ... I can do this ...

Set up the whole session, with a model, set shutter to 1/8000 and EVF and rear display on the mirrorless of course both go black as night - ahhhh, there was something in that stuff I researched about overcoming that problem.... but what was it exactly?

Search web history, cannot find reference, search on line manuals of camera and speed lights, cannot find setting needed

In desperation, post request for help on a web site (like this one, but camera specific).

Reply posted in under 2 minutes, just saying "Manual, page 271"; they were kind enough not to use the acronym RTFM.

Resume session, trying to look like I have everything under control ...

Now that's the kind of straightforward advice we look for. Not complete with edification

I was planning on a star trails in Nambia. I entered the area leaving small lights to find my way back to the car. When I was setting up the camera, I noticed a medium size cat looking down at me about 25 feet away. I yelled as he ran. Several thoughts, not a lion, leopard nor cheetah, in the area, but what? Then do I leave my camera a D3 to photograph throughout the night or do I take it back to the car and possibly use it as a heavy battery ram if attacked. What would you do? I did not get my star trails that night.

Support is not the problem with Picasa. Google set it up so you cannot email anything from it!

I'll have to retry that feature. Last time I tried I was able to email from Picasa. I used to be able to email and post onto facebook from Lightroom. NOW I can't?? I loved Picasa for editing until I found a world of difference in Lightroom in quality. Still can't manage the cataloging and that's why I bought it. I have a severe aversion to instructions. Holds me back in a lot of ways sometimes. Other times I plug thru, learn, then forget. 67 is not a good age for (my) brain and it ain't getting any younger!

Try a cemetery when it's foggy. Amazing effects.

Or raining. I got some great shots while in Halifax of many of the gravestones of the lost souls of the Titanic disaster. And capturing pics of people with umbrellas added to the drama.

Eraser worker!!!!!! Holy Mackerel!!! Thank you to all who suggested this!!! Love this site!!!!!!

quote=Linda S.]When that happened to me on a trip to Oregon, I went to the Canon camera shop, the camera person said that I should carry an eraser with me like the one on the end of a pencil and rub it gently over the contacts. Once I did that it works fine. That is about the lowest Tech, lowest cost solution that I started with and it actually worked! Hope this helps!!
Why would my Nikon D5200 suddenly not recognise that my AF-S Nikkor 50 mm 1.8 G. is attached?? It is telling me no lens attached when it is? No problem with my other 2 lenses and I've used this prime lens many times before. On the LCD the f-stop indicator or aperture is closed with F--- and the indicator flashes no lens attached. Any ideas?

I love my vest! My son bought it for me on Ebay for $25 but I saw the exact same thing in Hunt's Camera Store for maybe $40. I wanted it especially for when I bring my camera on short hikes. Plenty of pockets for both pursuits. But I'm always losing things so to have things that close helps me focus, no pun intended. Yes it can be used as a fishing vest. I even can fit most of my DSRL in one of the top pockets with the zoom lens on! Go for it!

quote=ppage]I ask this with some trepidation anticipating some ridicule...

I will be photographing some high school sports soon. Would it be good to wear a vest to hang my press pass on and carry around some crap? Kind of look the part and differentiate myself from the parents on the sidelines with cell phones and what not. Most of these vests are hilarious. What am I going to do with 21 pockets and zipper handles dangling everywhere? I was hoping to find something kind of simple. Do any of you guys wear them in this setting like sports or events?
Thank you. That answers that. I actually bought the Lightroom Library Module (manual) and it's on my lap top. Wish I had read it first...no patience... and I usually pay for it. Like now.

quote=via the lens]You might consider reading the LR Help manual at the Adobe web site or found at the top of the application in the menu. You decide where images are put when you import. The LR catalog that you currently have contains all of the edits you have made to any images in that catalog. If you start a new catalog you cannot access the edits from the old one, UNLESS you export and import as a catalog and I think that might be too confusing for you at this point. You can re-arrange folders from within LR and that also changes them on your hard drive; that might be your best approach. So simply drag and drop as you need to, creating new folders and deleting folders where you have moved images out of them.
And thank you for all your suggestions I really appreciate all. I toughened my shell in preparation for a backlash to my lack of knowledge. I try to learn but I don't retain well anymore and this is a hobby not my life's work. But I really like the editing tools in Lightroom. Thanks.

I need to understand the program especially catalogs and where pictures go. I've never understood that. I took my modem in for a tune up and was told I had pictures, duplicates everywhere. Not intentional. This requires a huge learning curve for me and honestly? I'm not learning quite as well as I used. That's why I wanted to uninstall and start from scratch, with my Lightroom Library Module at hand. My question is, what will happen to the Lightroom catalog already in my files? Can I still access the edited pics?

Having a big problem with "missing files." I've watched a few YouTube tutorials and it would be manageable if it were not almost my entire lightroom catalogue. (7000+ pics.) I hit something, pretty sure it was "synch metadata" and it sunk the connection to my pictures from Lightroom. This is over my head and I wondered what would happen to my post processed pics in Lightroom that I hadn't "exported" to Pictures if I uninstalled and reinstalled. I have windows 10. And in some ways I am a perennial beginner ( DSLR) for 5+ years. THANK YOU.
