I started with B&W film and love to convert to B&W in LR. Go in an play with the various colors too as they will make different things pop in B&W. For example, in this one, if you pushed up the green (maybe yellow) the grass area might pick up some. You aren't changing color, but you are tweaking the contrast of the color.

I like this one. I would like to see some more details in the field. Maybe add a Grad filter there and push up the shadows.

Skies and contasty images are fun in B&W.

The answer may be many of them. They all need activity to help get viewers and it isn't as simple as just posting. There are a lot of great posts and podcasts on promoting via social media. Unfortunately, this is much more complex than it should be and will take time to understand.

Different platforms also have different demographics for users. The last I checked, Facebook is more an older crowd and the new ones like Tiktok are the younger generations. There are many, many options. I'm sure this post doesn't help like you wanted.

But, good luck, you will learn a lot and hopefully achieve your goals.

That also falls into the bucket of good advice. I like it.

My guess is your problems is that when you plug the drive into your Dell, it doesn't show up.

I'd buy another hard drive, format it in the Dell, then plug it into your mac and copy everything over. It should then work in the Dell.

And, you will have a backup (the original drive).

Your question is getting images from the camera to the computer, but I think you are really asking where to put them on the computer and what programs to use for editing and organizing them.

My personal preference is to turn off the camera, take out the card, put it in my card reader and then use my softwares import feature. From there I can organize, rate, tag, edit and do what I want with them.

There are a lot of options out there. I use the Adobe tools. Lightroom CC Classic is my go to. There are a lot of free Youtube videos out there on it.

Try searching for "import and edit pictures", most of those tutorials will take you through the whole process. Look at some different software options and see what you think you like.

TC's can be great. On my D500, there is a little image degradation from them, but more than acceptable to me over cropping. I'm only using them on Primes as I don't have a push pull long zoom. I've borrowed a 200-500 and got good results with the 1.4.

The biggest problem I have between my 1.4 and 2.0 is the reduction in AF speed. Yes, you need higher ISO or slower shutter with the 2.0, but AF is slower.

Bridge will just the embedded JPEG which is almost instant. LR can try to first generate a preview which can take time.

I have LR set to pull the embedded previews. They are great until you make a change to the image. If it generates bigger previews based on settings, that will happen. I tend to use Smart Previews which I think speed it up. Balance of quality. If you zoom 1:1, I think it generates the full preview which is the slowest one to make.

Very nice. I grew up in South FL and I can almost feel the mosquitoes and smell it just by looking at those.

Great shots and a nice variation of normal zoo shots.

i tried Bridge and indeed it is FAST. Much faster than LR on my system. Recently, with the latest OS, LR suffered a change in performance. Using LR with my external monitor it takes multiple seconds to do simple things, like advance each image, add ratings, etc. 😡 So LR is unusable with my external monitor.

Using Bridge this does no happen using the external monitor. It advances instantly. 😃 The downside is bridge doesn't have P, U, X quick keys like LR, but I am sure I can figure out a work-around.

Yes, I use it because it is fast and included with subscription. I can cull an event to keepers and begin the LR import basically as fast as I can move through them. I do wish they keyboard shortcuts were the same as LR.

There are a view "workspaces" from the "Window" menu. I like Filmstrip.

I use the Adobe suite. Generally, I cull in Bridge and then drag the keepers into LR for further processing.

In bridge, you can flag images with ctrl+6 (or just "6" if you update program preferences), then filter to all selected, select all, drag to LR Grid view. That will trigger the import dialog with just the ones you flagged.

Why? Bridge only uses the embedded jpeg and it is very fast. Instantly I can not select the ones that are out of focus or have other fatal flaws.

Photo Mechanic is another similar option, but the value there is if you are adding specific tags for your editor quickly.

That was very interesting.

It leaves out that they don't have much fear and will come right up to you when working in the garden. But, if you have your camera, the disappear.

I want to respond only to those who advocate relying upon local backup only. There are many good options for remote (AKA cloud) backup. I won't bother to advance my personal choice.

I use local backup storage and I strongly recommend it. In my case it's TimeMachine on my Mac and the built-in features in Windows 10 on my wife's PC. In both cases I use multiple backup volumes so that the loss of any 1 is not a total loss. Cost is an issue but I am switching to SDD from HDD gradually even for backup.

But I have personally experienced flood, fire, tornado and earthquake. I've also lost volumes to power failures at critical moments. I have not experienced theft and vandalism but those are certainly common. Local backup is vulnerable to all of that.

In other words, buy insurance; it's cheap. Do you not have insurance on your home and your car and perhaps your photography gear? Then doesn't it make sense to insure your photos?

Anyone who is new to this subject who wants help with the decision process for which remote backup to buy is welcome to PM me or just use a thread like this. There are many experts who will freely share their knowledge and advice.

Good statement.

To add to the original poster, it is good you check it.

I do know that a backup plan is no good if you blindly trust it. Check your backups. When if you main data does go bad? How will you recover.

They are full of leading lines. See where they take your eyes and if the composition is interesting... there you go.

Little details are neat too.

You are talking about taking a fun journey to explore something and maybe take some pictures. Those trips are always fun for me and I almost always get shots I wasn't expecting.

If you are so inclined, get a can of compressed air, open up the case and blow out some of the dust. Sometimes the noise of the fans is just from dust accumulation. Search for some google videos first. You should disconnect everything and open the case. Not too hard, but there are a lot of cables you may or may not know where to put back.
