Dear bcheary,
I appreciate your finding these interesting articles for us. I am expecially interested in Hummingbirds and went to the website right away. Unfortunately, this is a teaser article you get little out of and it ends saying you have run out of free articles. So, it is a sales teaser.
Thanks for trying but this one is a bust.

The image was processed in CaptureOne, default values and cropped and then one was processed with Photo AI, autopilot.

I'm debating wether it is worthwhile to use Topaz Photo AI on some images. Is there a difference.

Joer,
I can't really see much of a difference. I have found that same situation when I have used Topaz Photo AI. I usually don't save the image after I compare it with the original image.
Maybe it is telling you your original image is great as-is.

On Monday I went to Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge to see if migratory birds had arrived and if the resident birds were out. It was a sunny day in the low 40s F and a low wind. For all of the birds shots I used my new (to me) Sony 600f/4 GM with a 2xtc. I found that this configuration of the lens is very sharp, but very sensitive to movement. Except for a few later shots of small birds on a rail for which I used a monopod, all shots were handheld. The best results were using the car windows and leaning against the car. Only a few free hand shots were useful. Another thing I learned was the 1200mm focal length made obtaining focus on flying birds difficult with the narrow field of view. Any future BIF pursuits will probably be without a tc.

The first 6 shots were taken in the area before the auto tour route. Usually dry fields were flooded. I used auto ISO and had a wide variance (e.g, #1 is 5000; #3 is 1250 and #4 is 6400). I adjusted the next few shots to 100 and 160, but I had to lighten the results in post-processing.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Mike,
Really nice photos. Your typical bird in flight and your guard geese are great. I need to get out there but, as you know, today the weather has fallen apart again.
Cheers,

I went looking for dragonflies - saw a few but too far off. A few busy bees didn’t seem to mind my intrusion. I got down low to capture these.

Excellent work, Steve! I thought that they did not close that gate until May. Thanks for the warning. I am going to Bear River on Monday and I usually stop by Farmington in the way back.

Thanks Mike. Maybe the gate was closed for that one day, but I doubt it.

It has been a very snowy winter here, so I haven't gotten out to photograph the birds on Farmington Bay. Finally a clear blue sky so away I went.

Unfortunately, the second gate is closed for the nesting season so there is but a short distance to view and photograph the birds. Still, there were a few to photograph.

All photos shot using Nikon Z9 and 500mm PF lens.

Enjoy,

Steve

Went to Black Point Friday morning with a fellow Hogger. Thanks for the loan of the 500mm PF Dave! What a SWEET lens! Pleasure to meet you and brother Dan. Sorry we couldn't show you a Kingfisher. As luck would have it, we went back this morning and saw a beautiful male KF close and in great light.
#1 here is a Juvenile Little Blue Heron and a beautiful photo if I do say so!
# 2 and 3 here is a Sora. Looks like a Rail, but my bird book says no it isn't. It's a Krake.??
# 4 and 5 is a...I have no idea! If any one does, please let me know. I've been through my go to Bird ID Book twice and still have no idea.
I hope you like!

Beautiful photos, as usual. Numbers 4 and 5 are, according to my Merlin Bird ID app, Western Willet. They are paler and gayer than the Eastern Willet.

Beautiful photos. Petra is an amazing place and your photos do it justice.

I believe the name of the structure you call the "library" is actually called the "Treasury."

We escaped the rain at Horseshoe Bend and took US 89 to Sedona. No matter which direction we looked, there were clouds and light that varied and brought out wonderful western colors.

Mike,
Beautiful photos of a picturesque area of our country. Enjoy your trip, it's snowing here for the next couple of days.
Nice job.

On our way to Kanab the weather was sunny, so when we came to the turn onto Route 12 that leads to Bryce Canyon, we took a turn into the park. I took shots from the highway and then we went into the park to the main overlook to get some shots of the hoodoos in the snow.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Mike,
Beautiful photographs. Good time to take these with the snow and good light. Nothing brings out the rock colors like the snow. Wall hangers for sure.

I was asked to post some more images with the red in them. I say red but actually it is more of a purple hue. They were all from a changing pattern over about a 40 minute period. It was a very active evening!

What beautiful photography! These photos are timeless.

For a number of years I worked 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle and saw the Aurora Borealis many times. Unfortunately, it was before digital cameras were available so I didn't have a chance to get photographs. Your photos are a beautiful reminder of this time in my life.

Thank you.
