So I have the new Tamron 70-200G lens with a 2x teleconverter, and am planning to go birding at a local wetlands in a few weeks. My question is, since I've not done this before, is it better to use a tripod or monopod for capturing birds in flight?

Birds in flight should have you shooting fast enough for hand held. That being said, if you can set up where there is a lot of taking off and landing a tripod can come in handy as the camera can get kinda heavy.

I have always enjoyed art but even as far back as kindergarten couldn't draw or paint as well as many. Photography came much more naturally to me and became my outlet for creativity. 8yrs old for the first, now 65.

My back up camera is a 1" sensor and I am still learning so will often use shutter/aperture priority. On my 7D mark ll it is 99% manual.

I find myself drawn to photo #3. All that color, and on an off. Nice job finding it!

Without reading the text of your question I can answer it: If you don't know what it is you can probably get along without it!

The 5dsr has an APS-C mode. If using an EF mount will give you a decent picture, just won't use the full sensor with all the quality it is capable of.

In St. Louis, Mo. it is Creve Couer Camera or my favorite, Schillers. Bought a Canon G7 mark 2 recently. Got to handle lots of cameras check out the features; had never used an evf. Pricing was within $10 of anything I could find online. Did have to pay sales tax but also got 24 free prints each month for a year. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I enjoyed the experience shopping there.

I work in an operating room and we have many Telescopes/Lenses/cameras. All of the various manufactures said that alcohol will eventually pit the glass and destroy coatings. Have not tested this, just never use alcohol, a bit of water if necessary and a micro fiber cloth.

I have the 7D mark ll paired with the 100-400 and can't imagine a much better set up for birding. The teleconvertor has kept me from purchasing a scope; so far. From what I hear though wish I had the 100-400 IS ll.

I use my Canon 5Dsr for wildlife shots and long-range macro-like photography photos using a Canon 400 II DO f4 lens. Hand held only shots. See the two examples here.

I don't plan on getting rid of the 7d ll, just wanting to branch out a bit. Thanks for the photos, nice to know that I could "grab" a shot if something presented itself. Outside of an annual trip to Florida in the winter don't do a lot for about 4 months. This would really give me something to work on.
