Wow a lot better than my first attempt. Listen when these and other folks on this Section talk. There are several life times of information here and all are willing to help.
Thanks. I still have a long way to go. Will listen to the accumulated wisdom offered here.
If you are using a DSLR set your camera to the "Mirror Up" mode to help avoid vibration from mirror-slap. Use either a remote shutter release or set a delay timer if you have to push the shutter button.
These were shot at f8 should I be stopping down to f4 or wider? I did use a cable release, did not think of using the mirror up mode. Will try that next time. Thanks for the suggestions.
When an image is stacked, various artifacts can be introduced because the software has limitations in what it knows to do.
Thanks Mark, looks like I have some more to learn. This image was stacked using LR and PS. I'm a rank beginner in LR and only knew what do do in PS from you tube videos. Thank you for setting me down the right path.
This is my first attempt at macro. I know I have a long way to go. I don’t know what insect produced this egg case. This is 31 focus stacked images taken with an AF-s NIKKOR 50mm 1:1.8 G and 2 extension tubes 36 and 20mm and a Neewer worm drive macro focus rail. I notice some areas of very soft focus. I believe that I may have already been in too deep when I took the first image. Any and all comments and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
If suggestions here do not fix the problem call Nikon customer service at 1-800-645-6687
Thanks I may have to do that, it's acting up again. I can't figure out why it works fine on the D5300 but not the D7200, and why all my other lenses work fine on both bodies.
Sounds like a contact problem when you say"If the camera is pointed down at more than a 45 degree angle the auto-focus works."
I gave the contacts in the camera a good rubdown with a Zeiss lens cleaning wipe and the AF seems to be working now. Will take it outdoors tomorrow and see if it continues to work. Thanks one and all for your suggestions. This site is the best.
Because you're having issues with the lens, I suggest you ensure you have the latest camera and lens firmware installed on your camera. You can download the firmware and instructions directly from Nikonusa.com.
I believe I have the latest firmware, C 1.04 and L 2.017
Is this something new? Did it work on your D7200 at one time and then stop working?
This is new. The silent motor slowly became less silent and would not auto-focus every time. Now it won't auto-focus when the camera is level or pointed up. If the camera is pointed down at more than a 45 degree angle the auto-focus works.
I have an AF-S NIKKOR 55-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 G ED that will not auto-focus on my Nikon D7200 body. I have the D7200 set up for back button auto-focus. I have made sure both the camera body and the lens are set to auto-focus.
When I put this lens on my back-up D5300 body, also set up for BBF, the auto-focus functions correctly.
All my other lenses an AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G II, AF-S NIKKOR 35mm 1:1.8G, AF-S NIKKOR 50mm 1:1.8G and a TOKINA 11-16mm F2.8 (IF)DX II auto-focus correctly on the D7200.
The only thing I have done to correct this is to clean the electrical contacts on the lens with a Zeiss lens cleaning wipe.
